YOWSERS !!!!thats an expensive break in ! did the engine mounts slide by any chance ??

i have a link for a new clutch bell on my pc, but using buds pc at mo, so will drop it in a bit later for ya. may want to also change out that main gear too, looks a bit "worn" aswell.

Unfortunately, it happens. mainly due to incorrect gear meshing or engine shifting thru loose or undertight mounts. may even be a weak clutch bell. hope you didnt pay a lot for the c/b, i'd go nuts if that happened on a new one.

Thats a brand new spur gear and a brand new CB. The CB is supposed to be "hardened". Guess I'm going to have to go another one tomorrow. I was in the 1/2 throttle stage of the break in. I was on the 5th tank of gas. That isnt a traxxas motor. Its a HPI 4.6, its the stock motor from a savage ss or x.. I dont remember.

That CB got owned!!!

That sucks,i mean i've had my buggy for months now and never stripped a CB or spur.

1mm pitch ?? are you sure you didn't mean 1.0 module (the standard pitch for 1/8 vehicles) ?

Also, did you space the bell/spur with a slip of paper between the teeth of both to give correct clearence or just bury them into each other ?

i didnt use paper but i didnt bury them into each other either. I kinda eyed it and did adjusted it by the feel of the gears. I think Ill do the paper thing when get the new one tomorrow. Is it jsut a regular peice of paper from a notebook? I just looked at the CB I had bought and it wasn't hardened.

Is that an HPI clutch bell? I never had any luck with those with my steel spurs. That spur gear looks like it is brand new, RCS I'm guessing.

That sucks man...I have one that looks even more milled down than that one. Bummer. There goes $20 down the drain. Pisses ya off.

I use an Ofna clutch bell on my cyber-maxx and no problems after a gallon .

Yep, I've also run OFNA c/b's with an RCS spur with no issues. Matter of fact, at one point back in the day I had 2 .26 engines with OFNA c/b's running on an RCS spur with absolutely no damage to the c/b's at all.

yeah it WAS a HPI CB. I'm going down to the LHS in the morning to see if he has an Ofna. I doubt he does. So Ill have to frigging order it and wait another week. I was in the middle of doing 0 to 1/2 throttle. Just little blips but I can tell once this thing gets tuned for after break in.. Its gonna haul. Its got massive power. It was wanting to do wheelies as it was.

I've got a video on youtube, but I'm waiting on it to be processed so I can post it.:\

Here it is

Yeah, Ofna is the way to go. I forgot the brand for a minute there. I used Ofna on my cybermaxx with the RCS spur as well, and no problems.

From your other thread ;)
The only 1/8 clutch bell I can vouch for holding up to a steel spur is the OFNA ones I mentioned earlier.

The OFNA hardened bell wears really good with the RCS spur.

Sorry to see it was short lived fun. Can't say I didn't have a similar experiance as I attempted to run a sub-par CB with my RCS spur when I installed mine:

3/4 tank with an already broken in engine.

I made it a rule to use cheap clutch bells on my buggies during break in, something like a cheap kyosho one, good clutch bells and i have never had a problem. I always then, after break in, switch to a quality high grade clutch bell. At least if i rub out a c/b during break in, it's not the high grade expensive one.

maybe try a cheap c/b and if it did rub, at least you have your "Decent" hardened one to fit when the engine is broken in.

Just a thought..........

Rub = Get chewed up

Well I went to my LHS today and was snooping around. He has like 6 large cardboard boxes full of parts that he has lining the walls of the store. Apparently there was another hobby shop in another town that went out of business. He bought all that stuff cheap. As I was going through the boxes low and behold I found an Ofna 18T extra hard Cb. I about pooped myself. I found a ton of parts and best of all they were 1/2 price off! WHOOHOO! Jackpot! So I came back home this morning put the Ofna on and it worked perfectly. Barely even any marks on the teeth after 1/2 gallon of nitro. It was 74 today and it was beautiful. Now to the other problems. I broke the driveshaft 3 times and smoked the brakes. I also switched over to my new DX3S and I dont have a lot of right turn now. I've adjusted on the remote and I have it turning better then before, but prior to me using the DX3S it was turning fine. So does anyone know what I need to do to fix this other then buying a new steering servo. I'm going to buy a JR racing servo next week that is like 400 oz/in. But I was wanting to do something in the mean time. This thing is really viscious (sp) It will do wheelies on demand. Even when it shifts to second it pulls wheelies!

This is one of the times that I broke the driveshaft.
