Great Undercoating!!

I just finished up a body for my TC4 and found that I didnt have any undercoating for it. I was looking around and found a bottle of Plasti Dip in a spray can that I got a few weeks back. Its a race body and they dont last long for me and my one color paint jobs so I figured I would give it a shot.

I was expecting it to melt the paint but it didnt effect it at all. It was a bit soft until it fully cured but now its fine. I could scrape the paint off the inside of the window mask with my nail before it fully cured. I used 3 light coats and its tough as nails. I tried to scratch it off and had no luck. Its fuel proof and adds an additional layer of toughness to the shell.

I used the clear but it comes in several colors. I may try to use only the plasti dip spray on my next body.

Just thought I would share. I will see how it holds up given time. I'm sure it will be great.

That sounds like a great idea, I bet you won't have problems with the body cracking or splitting!

I hate when you buy a can of that stuff and it dries up on you in a week even though you sealed the can with saran wrap, tin foil...

heck yeah bro! I've been giving this product plugs for like 3 years. It's a great (although smelly) "liquid" mask, the black is awesome for doing faux bedliners/roof rack rails/molding etc, and if you have one of those bodies that actually DOESN'T come with an overspray film... boom, done. This stuff is awesome for the R/C hobby!

Well I have some bad news about using it for undercoating. It hold up great and is tough as nails as listed above.
HOWEVER.......
My orange body turned brown after being in the sun all day art the races. We first say that it looked like it has splotches in the paint and as the day went on the entire car turned to a truly great looking brown color.

Truly interesting I must say. If your going to go rob a bank and ned a getaway car, ti may work out for the best but not on an RC that you want to stay the same color you painted it.
