I race in the buggy and truggy class at my local track
One thing I've always been wary of is RX packs letting me down during a heat, so I've always gone to a meeting with plenty of pre-charged 6V NiMh 1100mAh packs.
I also tend to change the packs after every heat due to the fact I am going to open the radio box or unplug the pack it's always been just as easy replacing an RX pack as it is to giving the packs a little "top up" in between heats.

I was in need of some new RX packs for the 2006 season and I contacted United RC who I buy all my Micro packs from.
Jon introduced me to what must be the most logical Nitro RX pack I've come across so far! It's the URC Nitro RX 6V 1100mAh NiMh pack.
It has an extra set of wires so I don't have to open the radio box or unplug the RX pack when recharging in between heats! What an awesome idea.
Another thing worth mentioning is the quality of the packs, the photo reveals all.



I do recommend this. It's nice to see products built by racers for racers that make sense!
 
An additional charging plug is great to have. If you are not using an on off switch,its best to unplug your pack during charging.
 
If the 1100mAH packs are getting marginal then you might want to try a larger capacity pack. 1400mAH packs are not uncommon now, haven't seen any with charging leads built in but you could replace your switch assembly with one with a charging lead built in.

Alternatively, if you can stand another 25g of weight on your rig and your battery box is big enough then you could make your own 5-cell packs using AA cells. How does 2500mAH grab you?
 
I used to run a maxxpack for a year and it just completely died recently... Then I got an Intellect 1200 and i LOVE it.

25g is just less than an ounce to you, Eric. ;)

LOL...I'm just playing....I thought your comment about the weight difference was funny...like that is going to affect a buggy in any serious way.....well okay if you want to get techno weenie yes I know it will...I prooved a fly can affect the verranzano bridge so I do understand the physics but guys that get that crazy over an ounce of batteryneed to get a life....seriously....

I checked the specs on GP's site again and the difference between an 1100mAH pack and 5 x 2500mAH AA cells is probably nearer to 50g (2oz), but yeah, that's not going to do much harm on a buggy that weighs nearly 8lb fully loaded.

Good point though. I'd often wondered if there was any mileage buying stuff like C/F shock towers and titanium turnbuckles and screw sets, when a 1:8 buggy weights nearly 8lb. Is it all really worth it or is it just bling/peepee-waving? There's such a wide choice of servos and engines all with different weights that surely the only way you'll get the side-to-side and front-to-back weight distribution even is if you load the chassis up with ballast, which kinda defeats the purpose of all that expensive lightweight stuff? What do other people think?

CF is good for stiffness more so than weight IMO.....as far as people weighing their screws and such is just stupid.....I dealt w/ the gram freaks in cycling....I never wore spandex shorts unless it was race day..I'd train wearing shorts under my BDUs and had to listen to all the crap from guys (who didn't race mind you) about how the wind resistance and weight of my pants was more than they could deal w/......I told em to worry about shaving 10-20 lbs off their fat asses before finding out a coat of paint weighed 24grams......negative weight coefficient is directly related to power output.....
