I have been looking at this for a while and wondered if anyone has done it? anyway what it is is hooking up a electric motor backwards using a rubber band and pully that is run off the trucks easy start? This could be done to generate electricity to power light a cooling fan or even charge your batteries? has anyone else thought of this? i think i might give it a try.

Just remember, generators require power to turn them and it may not be worth the power loss of the drive motor. Not to mention the added weight. Good luck with it though. :hammer:

Not worth it. A lot of drag and power loss for the nitro engine, plus you need circuitry to regulate the voltage. It would also need to be belt driven. You can't run the alternator on a real car with a bungie cord.

you know what i was thinking why run it off the motor when you could run it off the spur..

i wouldnt cause half as much drag and you could gear it down or up for the amount of power you need anyone see what I'm going for and if you really need it you can put a small step up transformer but of course it will be alot of weight to do that one

You would need a regulator, not just because the power won't be consistent. But also if you charge a battery it will act as an electric motor and try to turn when there isn't enough RPM's to turn it. That will do more harm then good. Also you would have to gear it down because I don't think it could handle 30,000 RPM. One more thing, the drag with out a load would be tremendous on a nitro engine.

Believe it or not I drove about 19 miles with a string from a pair of sweat pants on the water pump and alternator as a belt. That was on a 76 Plymouth valiant. I wouldn’t suggest it for a daily commute, but it got me home. My friend was a little pissed about the rope burn when I ripped the string out of his sweat pants. But he got over it. :)
