Hey guys, I'm looking for a program that can take a video from youtube and save it to my computer. And here is the reason...Our wonderfun IT staff has blocked out any website that has any kind of videos. Actually anyting that can be classified as entertainment. Freakin sucks! But anyway, I'm a training officer for firarms and intermediate force and i would like to use some of the videos from youtube because stupid people make stupid videos, which usually leads to a lighter atmosphere during my training.

So what works, and what works best?

The player comes with its own downloader. It pops up on youtube videos in the top right corner.

It does download in .flv video format though so you'll either need the player at work to play them or a converter.

If you're using Firefox, get an add-on called DownloadHelper. It will allow you to pluck vids from any webpage that has an imbedded vid. I use it a lot to pull vids to watch on my MP3 player.

Just another quick bit, it does save the vids in their native format. Typically it's .flv. But there are a ton of freeware converters on the web that can get it to any format you need.

I use unplug to give me links so I can right-click/save as. However, there isn't an un-hacked version for any version of FF beyond 2.*, which is why I have the hacked version... I don't recall where I downloaded it from though.

I use GOM player for my video player for any format:

Works best if it's installed on the drive your videos are stored on. It causes heavy CPU usage and glitching otherwise if it isn't. But other than that, I've run across very few files it can't play.
