I have no clue if I'm posting this in the right place, but here's the deal. Long time rc enthusiast, newby rc owner. I've had my truck about 3 months now, and generally speaking I love it. I've got an HPI Trophy truggy f4.6, pullstart. Everything on the truck is stock other than the pullstart, the first one melted on me. The truck has about 12-15 tanks run threw it at this point.

So today I was out running my truck, and I had a bit of a mishap. Apparently one of the wire leads on the battery pack in my truck broke off (No idea how), and the truck floored its self and I lost complete control of the steering and throttle.

The truck hit one tree, did a backflip off of it and landed on its side and kept going, high a second tree, another flip and landed on its side. Finally flipped its self over and after about 4 seconds it died. Took about 15 minutes to figure out the broken wire lead issue, got that fixed and now have full control again.

Next issue was the engine was locked. Pulled it off and took it apart, obvious issue.

Now my questions are, do I need a new crank/piston? How do I get the sleeve out? Do they make upgraded pistons/rods/sleeves, possibly out of better material? Best prices? Can I get an upgraded heatsink?

As mentioned before this is a F4.6 on a trophy truck.

Thanks for any help!

If you're lucky, you can get away with just replacing the conrod. Make sure there's no scrapes in the sleeve, and while you're at it replace the bearings.

Alright thanks. Do you think the damaged piston skirt will hurt anything? And do you have a link to the rod/bearing?

Thanks a lot.

If the piston skirt is damaged you'll need to replace it.
Get a fail safe to avoid another runaway. The con rod went because it revved wide open without a load.

I know the engine is very new but you might want to consider just trading in your engine and getting a new one thru hpi. It might cost more up front but if you repair your broken engine you might be looking at more than what's there. It might not be just the conrod. It could be the conrod, the piston and sleeve, and then the bearings. After you add all of that up, you might be close to a trade in engine thru hpi. Another thing you may want to add to your rig is a throttle return spring. This way if you heaven forbid lose control again, the engine will just idle. Hope this helps, Steve.

Lot of help here guys, thanks. I live in Ohio, and I just looked up HPI engine trade in program. One thing here worries me:

Damaged parts are acceptable (cut connectors, wires, etc)

Will they accept my engine? Also, what componits do I need to include with the engine, and would I be able to send in my engine and upgrade to a K5.9? And would a 5.9 work on my truck? Thanks for any feedback.

Best way to find out is to call them.

A lot of people are suggesting the Losi 454, any comments on this? And if I get it, will it be a direct bolt in? And what else will I need to buy? Clutch header etc.

Whatever engine you go with, install a throttle return spring. Then when power is lost, your truck will simply return to idle, avoiding damage.
