I got my THS off road racing pipe in the mail today. God am I stoked! I can see my face in it. Can you say bling bling? :bling:

I guess I should make this an informative thread. (god knows a junk post kills a kitten. a junk thread may kill a baby seal or something.)

Well, I've never heard of or seen this pipe put on the Hyper 8-port. I don’t if it will fit, but I have some hillbilly logic on the subject:

1.) The stock pipe fits the Hyper .21
2.) The stock engine from which the stock pipe came from is the same as the Savage
3.) The THS pipe fits the stock Savage engine.
4.) Therefore, the THS pipe should fit the Hyper .21

That's almost a proof from geometry -- all I need now is a triangle and some mention of the Pythagorean Theorem.

I'm sure the pipe will fit the engine. Whether or not the stinger falls into the stinger hole cut in the Lightning Pro is yet to be seen. I'll keep you updated.

I have the same pipe on the Hyper 8 port.
As far as comparing it to others, I don't know.
When I got my Hyper 8 I installed it before brake-in and haven't tried any other pipe.
Yes it looks great and from what I can tell, It preforms as good as it looks.

Bling bling.....lol....j/k. Tell me how it is!! I like the look but it is just so damn expensive for a pipe. 8-0

I'm hoping it helps the bottom end out a little. I just put a 12 tooth CB on it. It's a nice fast (top end) engine which is great for bashing them Savages around, but I really need the get up and go for our tight track.

Eddy, you race your CyberMaxx with this engine, right? Any complaints about the bottom end?

I get better performance when I lean it a bit but then my temps shoot up to 270-280.

-Rob

My temps are in the same aria.
At first I was being careful not to over stress my parts with torque. Now that I have upgraded my drive-train I changed my gearing. I went from 66/22 Which gave me all top end, to 66/19.

With the new gearing, I have all the low end I need for our short tight track and more. I have found the hyper 8 port will accommodate just about any gearing you can through at it. Again I have no idea what difference the THS pipe makes or how it will perform in a buggy.

Eddy will this THS pipe lower the volume a lil? Everyone knows how loud the savage can be with the stock pipe and on the solid concrete.

I put it on last night. It's not any quiter. It sounds different, but it's still loud.

I had this silly idea: retune the carb after I put the pipe on. I gave the HS a 3/4 turn counter-clockwise from home. I put the LSN a little ways in from break-in (very very rich)

I did this after warming it up. I then started to leane the HSN first. I got to 1/4 turn from home and it was still bogging down like it was richer than anything.

Then it dawned on me: no smoke. I put the needle right back at home. It bogged down still but after it got to speed there wa no smoke. I never smoked much.

I'm an idiot. The HSN was too lean all along. I left it about 1/4 richer from the old position (just before the smoke started to disapeared). Then I leaned the LSN (i knew this was the cause for the boggin down).

It's beautiful. Maybe it's the pipe, but I've got all the bottom end I can stand. I have so much that I hear this odd whistling when I take off. I think the clutch shoes can't hold on and hence causing the whistling as the shoes spin around the bell. (stocker clutch shoes) The temps are holding at the classic 230-240.

My whole problem was my HSN was too lean and my LSN was too rich to compensate (hence the poopy bottom end performance and/or high temps.).

Just when you think you know a thing or two, you get a slap in the face and realize you know nothing.

RobH,

You got a 12T clutchbell on your Lightning? It looked too close to the center diff housing when I tried it. How well does it work? How much better on the low end vs. stock? I am running a C4 in mine, no need for more top-end, could use a little more on the bottom though.

C4, nice.

I put th OFNA 12 tooth clutch bell in it. I'm running the Hyper 8-port. It's possible that the output shaft on the C4 is longer than the output shaft on the Hyper 8-port. Hence, the c4 + that bell is too long where the 8-port plus the same bell isn't. I noticed this OFNA clutch bell is a little longer than it needs to be. Do you have that same bell? Maybe you need a shorter bell, maybe the kyosho 12t?

From what I read, the 12t gives you some pretty good bottom end from the C4/C5 engines.

From seing the pipe run on you Cyber Eddy it did a good job. The pipe was a little long for my liking which I think if you switched to a shorter pipe you would experience a great deal more power on the low end. The Hyper .21 is a solid moderate engine from the performance I saw it had get up and go for sure. I would be curious to see what a shorter pipe did on the engine. I was leaning toward buying that pipe for awile but I think I will wait it out.

my car has plenty of bottom end now. it's hard to say it the pipe is the rusult or not. :shurg: but damn does it look nice.

Hmm that one doesn't look as long as I remember Eddys so maybe it is just like the Dynamite. Good pic Rob.
