Well, I got my roller in the mail today (UPS). I'll start wrenching on it tonight to get everthing I have installed. I bought this off of skymaxx for $200. He was obviously in a generous mood as this thing barely looks used.

Here's what I received:

I am no longer a member of the 21 maxx group. Just a measly orion wasp 18 maxx group.

Damn Skymaxx even packed it all professsh!!! Whatt all did it come with? What are your plans for it?

The box was all full of shipping peanuts. But, this is what it looks like after a half hour of peanut removal. It was kind of like christmas. My memory sucks, so I forgot what was included. As I was removing peanuts I was finding prizes! OOOOhhhhhhhhh shocks! OOOOhhhhhhhhhh, original owners manual. OOOOOOhhhhhh, spare parts. OOOoohhhh tires...

Anyway, it came with a handful of spare parts including some cvd's or dogbones (don't remember, I was in a hurry to get the truck part out to look at). A pretty new set of street tires mounted on rims. Installed hot bodies threaded shocks. All 8 stock shocks (un used) in a bag. Bottle of shock oil and something else. Installed dual brake disk upgrade. Can't remember what kind of cvd's are on it, but they aren't stock.

I plan on throwing my Omega 21 Comp engine in it that was in my 21 maxx that I kept breaking. Along with the Airtronics MX-3 Radio that I just bought to make my 21 maxx more controlable. Having a radio with EPA didn't help much. Even with the EPA set to 50% open on the carb, it was still just smoking the clutch. To avoid that, I would have had to drop probably about $40 into it for an 1/8 scale clutch. Then I would probably toast the diffs again, the cvd's, the trans 2 speed... you know, all the headaches that come with a 21 maxx.

I tore the 21 maxx apart, washed everything (and i mean everything) in soap and water. Oiled stuff that would rust and just sorted everything out as spare parts for my little maxx. Pretty much everything is usable on my little maxx but the engine, chassis plate and chassis rails.

I'm just a weekend basher. No racing. The bill on the 21 maxx had exceeded $2000. I decided it was time to stop putting money into a truck that was never going to be what I wanted.

So... I'm starting the slate clean again. I have a 2.5 maxx with an Orion Wasp 18 in it. I've converted it to 2wd. I loaded it up with upgrades that I had on my 21 maxx. Rc-Solutions skid plates, my bumper grommets that every likes so much, new era 3 point roll bar, 4 supermaxx shocks, RPM shock towers. Basically, all the stronger and better stuff I had on the 21 that I didn't have 2 of for the little maxx. I took the little maxx out saterday and ran about 1/2 gallon through it. 3 hours of beating the piss out of it. The damage for the day was a lost body clip and torn exhaust coupler.

Sorry for the long post. Just thought I'd throw out a history of the mess I've made for myself. I'm fairly certain that since the savage is made for a 21, it's going to handle the power a lot better and prove to be more fun than my 21 maxx ever was. But now, my little maxx is like a stadium truck that you can't kill! So both will be fun.

Yeah the savage will easily handle a .21. The savage candle more than that from what I hear. I still have the stock .25 and I've broken a few dogbones and 1 spur gear and that's it for the drivetrain.

You will definetely have fun with it!

The Savage Roller that I sold to Olds came with:
1. Four spider diff mod front and rear
2. HPI dual disk brake
3. Hot Bodies threaded shocks
4. Hot Bodies CVDs all around
5. HPI primerless tank
6. His choice of wheels (he chose the ProLine Road Rage tires mounted on ProLine Velocity Six widemaxx rims).

The rest is a stock Savage .21. I sent along the stock shocks (brand new never used), the remaining shock oil from servicing the Hot Bodies shocks, a small parts box with some of the other stock parts that I had left over, and that is about it.

The truck was sent in its original box, with the original manual and the sticker sheet that came with the truck (only two stickers were ever used...the ones for the "fog lamps").

As for the packing, that is the way I do things. Unless the box can go without the brown paper, it usually gets wrapped,

Glad it got there in the shape it was packed. I am certain he will enjoy it as much as I did.

The "CVD" looking spare parts are actually the original stock dog bones and cups minus one out drive dog bone...which found a new home on a Savage at the Hampton Roads Bash.

Good news is I got it put together. Bad news is, I still need a few things before I bash it.

Need a servo saver, currently only have a horn on it for testing purposes tomorrow. I need to mess up a body to put on it. Fuel line and filter needs installed.

Also, I already did my first couple "olds" mods on it. I made my own receiver packs out of 2000 MaH AA's. They are 5 cells. I had to cut a hole in the top of the receiver box to install it. Here's a shot:

Also, I had to grind a bit of the chassis since my engine would fit quite right with the 16t CB that I bought. The engine mount bolts were hitting one of the vertical side plates. I think I'm going to try to figure a way to install the 125cc buggy tank that I had on my 21 maxx. The tank on the savage is just too bulbous and in the way of the starter cord a little.

I did the tank mod. I'll probably break it 5 minutes into my first run. I couldn't get it quite where I wanted it without hitting the shocks, so I had to mount it lower than I would have liked.

I had a really hard time getting the lid on the receiver case. I think something must be in the way internally. It doesn't line up exactly right on the left side. Not sure why, but I'll piss with it tomorrow night after I take it for it's maiden run around the parking lot.

Also, I didn't realize that they put left and right hand threaded axles on that thing. I wonder why they did that? The ones on my maxx never really loosed up and they were all normal threads.

U got a very nice deal! When it comes to packing Sky really does a great job. He must've had a X-mas wrapping job when he was younger. lol

Interesting mods for the battery pack and the fuel tank.

As for the cross threaded axles, that is an HPI special. You might want to read up on it in the owner's manual. :D

Glad to see you having fun with it.

Dude you always do the most interesting mods honestly. They are inventive and creative I like them. Don't know that I'll be hacking up my savage any time soon but great mods bro.

Well, the mod is done:

As for giving up on the maxx... not so much. I gave up on a 21 maxx. Just to many things to maintain. The maxx just wasn't built to handle more than 1.8hp regardless what you do to it. At least, what I could afford to do to it. However, parts of my 21 maxx live on. I transferred my buggy shocks, new era roll bar, rpm shock tower, rc-solutions skid plates/bumpers, homade bumper grommets and when the diff blows, I have 2 prime maximizer diffs with aluminum diff cases just waiting in a drawer.

Here's a few shots of both my savage and my S-maxx side by side:

sweet rides man. looks like the savage sits up higher then the t-maxx. is the savage more prone to roll over? lmfao that t-maxx is a piece of work man. lol. great job on the rides.

The savage shocks (Hot bodies) springs are really soft. I haven't rolled it yet, but I also haven't put more than 5 tanks through it. Just getting it ready for today. I intend on beating the crap out of both today... the savage body will look like the maxx body by tomorrow. I have a knack for destroying bodies.

Looks good. How'd it go today?

Went well, got sunburn, broke both the savage and maxx...

The only savage damage was a lost cvd pin on my rear center cvd and a beat up body. Maxx damage was broken engine mount, ruined spur and busted aluminum bulkheads.

I have a few movies and pics that I need to go through and post.

Hey, I am at NIU going to school and also run a savage, we should meet up!
We ususally run by the Engineering building or over by Menards.

THis is how i did it w/ my 125cc tank.

recognize these spots at all?

Damn... no I don't. Where is it?

I'm not a fan of trespassing... been shot at one to many times. Pesky farmers. But those dirt piles look really entising.

I play mostly at the skate park... I can't remember what the parks name is, but it's on the north side of town with a few baseball diamands.

We should hook up. I normally drive alone, at least until a bunch of kids show up, then I leave. I'd hate to think what a 15lb 40mph hunk of stuff would do to a kid if I lost control. Send me a PM. I'm usually available on weekends only though, since I work near brookfield zoo, I don't make it home before it gets dark.

That is one blue truck!
