I have done a lot of diffrent rc stuff but recently I wanted to get into boats. I need a recomendation for something under 100$, electric, 10+ mph that i could modify from a toy to a hobby boat thanks!

This boat is just a little over $100 at $110 at Tower Hobbies, but it does almost 13 mph in this vid. Would be a great boat to do a brushless upgrade on I am guessing.

I could just make a hull. What is the best material to make it?
Fiberglass and balsa wood. If you have any friends with a 3d printer there are lots of 3d printable designs on the various 3d model sites like Thingiverse. You could use Styrene also. I have seen a couple styrene boat builds before. One was absolutely insane. It was like some kinda patrol boat.

Hello, OK, your entreaty was some time ago; but am new to this forum so please forgive my tardiness. Have you ever BUILT from wood kit ? Today, I finished my TUGSTER SPRINGER TUG from ZIPPKITS https://zippkits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=498 This kit was purchased along with the U.TIMATE HARDWARE PACKAGE for right around $150.00 sans radio. The kit is an easy, straightforward, simple build. Radio is a 2-channel salvaged from a wrecked TRAXXAS SLASH that I had laying around. The wheelhouse is held in place by RC Car body clips on drilled wood dowels; adhesive us TITEBOND slow-set water based ( plenty of time for the glue to sink in to make a strong bond ). Only problem is fuel to the vicitudes of COVID causing delays and short supply. NOT an ice-breaker; will have to wait for clear Spring water for first float. PLEXI on the back is to be a splash-proof area for computerized measuring gear and 5.8 GHz duplex telemetry. Wheelhouse comes apart for access to a GOPRO. TWIN TUGSTER is awaiting motive and control hardware, lighting. a smoke genrrator and a sound module. Anyone have experience with adding sound to boat. If it wasn't for a cramped "engine room" and shallow draft, would like to use steam instead of electric for motivity . Of course, these steam engines don't run on alcohol burners, they BURN LOTS OF CASH 😬

I have never added sound to any of my boats, because i didnt see a need, since all i run, except for two cheap warships i picked up, are fast Catamarans, but, guys i know who have added sound usually get the sound controllers from these guys: https://www.harbormodels.com/sounds.html I never really paid much attention to it, but, from what i understand, depending on the type of sound, and if the sound controller will also do engine startup sounds or not, it either hooks up to an extra channel on the receiver, or between the ESC and receiver. I envy you for being able to finish a wood kit. Years ago, i tried to build a wooden sail boat, and i didnt do it very well, since it sank twice on me in less than 2 minutes, so i gave up and went back to prebuilt race boats.

Thank you for the sound module link. Sorry your sailboat sank; tell us a bit about it. Here are two I am interested in: ARF ECLIPSE from RAGE RC https://www.hobbyrecreationproducts...its/products/rgrb1301-eclipse-1m-rtr-sailboat and KYOSHO SEAWIND RTF https://www.kyoshoamerica.com/SEAWIND-READYSET_p_23942.html. Did you ever retrieve your sunken sailer ? I get sailing ideas from the mag WOODEN BOAT https://www.woodenboat.com/ Their zdvert section at the back has sources for model sailboats. BUT BEWARE ---> their want-ads has a section BOATS FOR FREE JUST COME AND PICK IT UP. Incredibly, there have been listings for FULL-SIZE SEAWORTHY 40-foot and larger boats! Get silly a minute and imagine restoring a full-size blue-water wooden 60 footer, sailing it to Positano https://www.whatsinport.com/Positano.htm and sailing your RC models from the boat's Foredeck 🙂

You're welcome. It was a crude, roughly 24" 3 masted schooner. My ex-father-in-law builds planes with balsa wood, but, I'm not into flying, so, i used some of his leftover wood. It had automatic masts, using servos and drums, and cut up old collapsible radio antennas, but, they werent done very well honestly. On one, the line was too short, so the mast never fully raised, and the other two sort of worked, so, to test it out i tried it in one of those kiddie pools, and both times it sunk, so i finally gave up on it. I've been on woodenboat.com before. Awhile ago, i lived just off Lake Ontario, and used to go to the sailing regattas in Oswego, N.Y., as well as Harbor Fest, and a couple of the stores in Oswego sold the magazine. I actually picked up a couple free motor boats through them, one a 21' cabin cruiser, the other a 19' Bayliner. Now, i live roughly 45 minutes from Watkins Glen and just over an hour from the Tioga-Hammond lakes project in PA. Around here, they do several, build your own, made out of whatever, regattas, and we race fast RC boats on Seneca Lake, but not many around here do wooden RC boats. I think i have maybe seen two in the last 4 years. I picked up the two cheap warships just to film on a couple of the rivers here, but they didnt work too well on the Chemung and Susquehanna rivers.

Now I want one of those. This forum is getting expensive 😫

Your going to have to find your own, but deals are out there
