A guy from work bought a Redcat Earthquake 3.5 for his 8 yr old son for Christmas. Realized its a too advanced for a 8 yr old. He said he would sell it to me for 180 bucks. Its never been ran or even started. Still brand new in the box. I've heard bad things about Redcat but for 180 bucks should I go ahead and chance it? I'm in my late 30's and just want a Nitro truck to play around with in my yard. Not a hardcore basher. Any thoughts? I can't imagine it being any worse than the ST-15 I bought years ago. But any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Some people have had good luck with them. Seems like an ok price for it since it is brand new! IMO, I would look on craigslist and find a Traxxas as a starter as parts are easily accessible at any LHS and you can find them pretty cheap.

My boys are 7 and 10 and I just bought them each a HPI Mini Recon and they love them. They are super quick and easy to work on and maintain.

Ya I was thinking at that price I don't have much to lose. It would get me into a 4x4 Big Block for under 200 bucks. I think I might chance it. I've always been a Traxxas fan as well. I raced a Traxxas Sledgehammer back in the day with great success!!

I would advise against the Redcat rigs in general. There really is no after-market support and parts are usually not available locally. Buy a better brand after saving a bit more. You'll be better off and actually save some money in the long run.

Thanks for the advise. Although there is nothing local for me. Everything I get RC is always online through the mail.
