Ok, I have read many forums, but I can not find my answer. I built a 4907 from the ground up..wayyyy to much money..but its been fun....i installed all factory Traxxas items....I have ran a quart of nitro so far. Well..now I've changed some things and now I have issues......i bought a THS muffler..love it...and i bought a 3 shoe clutch and RRP spur gear 58T and 20T clutch bell. Installed everything....now it wants to take off when I start it. Everything is the same before I changed the clutch, clutch bell, and spur gear, sooooo what have I done wrong? Am I tightening the spur gear too tight, how do I adjust it? I basically tightened up the nut till it looked close to the factory picture. Anyway..I need your help...I would really appreciate it. Oh and I was amazed at one thing.....I was using Traxxas fuel 20%..it always takes 2 or 3 times..to get it fired up....I bought a gallon of Torrco fuel 20%....fired right up....impressive. But doesn't do me any good untilI fix my issue. Thanx again everyone!

Your engine clutch is engaging the clutch bell too soon; some part of it is broken or is installed incorrectly. The slipper clutch has nothing to do with the truck moving forward when starting it.

+1 on the drive clutch engaging too early. Double check your spring installtion on the 3 shoe.

I agree the clutch shoe could be the problem but I have also have bad clutch bell bearings do that as well. Just enough friction to roll it forward. It was a butt pain when I was a noob. Just lowering the idle until it would not run. Didn't work out so well...lol

Not that it may be the problem but the slipper clutch nut adjustment should be tightened all the way tight and backed off a half turn.

The pins in the flywheel came out and my shoes were hitting against the bell. So I have cleaned the pins and put green loctite on them. It should be ready today, I hope it works. If not, but a better brand clutch. Thank you for your replies.

This is how you find a starting point on the old style slipper. Tightening the new style slipper down all the way ruins the crush plates, causing excessive slipping unless its cranked tight. Then it wont slip at all.

ok, i got another question. I put green loctite on and reinstalled clutch. It does the same thing, but now I see the problem. The traxxas clutch when the cb is over it, the crankshaft sticks out and you put the screw on and it spins freely. Well after installing the 3 shoe clutch and cb(same cb), the crankshaft is inside the bearing on the cb, so when your tightning the screw, it the cb doesn't move. Ok, so I loosed it up, but it still doesn't fix the problem. Also, when I install the factory clutch and cb I can take the cb and move it, it has moving room when screw is installed, I have no movement with the 3 shoe clutch. Any ideas on how to fix it? How can I shave the 3 shoe clutch so the crankshaft sticks out over the cb? Its an integy 3 shoe clutch. Thank you.

When using the stock clutch shoes and clutch bell, the bell it is normally secured with an E-clip that fits in the groove on the crank. If you are using a screw in the end of the crank with the stock setup you will need to shim between the front bell bearing and the head of the screw to remove the excess play. Not too tight/not too loose, just a little play so the bell spins freely.
If the integy shoes are thicker than the stock shoes and are causing the bell to not seat deep enough so that the front bell bearing does not stick out past the end of the crank the shoes are too thick for the stock bell depth (you may have got the wrong clutch setup). You either need thinner shoes or a deeper clutch bell to fix the issue.

ok, did not know they offered thinner shoes and/or a deeper clutch bell. Thank you Snook Man.

Update

Ok, I grinded down the shoe and pins. Put the cb back on and it fits perfect. Smooth as can be. A little modification, but it works.

Ok. Well, my clutch didnt work after trimming it down. Went ahead and bought a Buku clutch. can't wait till it get here.

I just like how you can "tune" the clutch...no more springs to take out. It seems like the best clutch to buy. I'm really excited. Sometimes if you want something good quality..you have to pay th money. I'm just tired of buying part and they are low quality.

The buku has been getting good reviews. I was gonna say, whatever brand clutch you have now, probably didn't come with a new flywheel nut. Good clutches come with a new nut that has a notch in it for the springs. This keeps the shoes from riding forward into the bell.
