Goin' under the knife

Gonna have my colon taken out Wednesday. Merry Christmas to me. Anyone been through this one before?

Its an auto immune disease called Ulcertive Colitis. Basically the colon thinks its bad and gets all inflamed and can destroy itself. Fun stuff for sure. I've been in and out of the hospital for the past few years and hopefully this will put an end to everything.

I've heard of it. I went to school with a kid that had it. I'm sure the surgery will give you relief...finally.

My older brother has ulcertive colitis. He just turned 20 this past november. Have you ever had test done to check on your liver? My brothers colitis is actually damaging his liver and the doctors have told us he will most likely need a transplant in about 10-15 years. Anyhow, I hope the surgery goes as planned and I wish a speedy recovery and a merry christmas!

One of my foreman's actually had colon cancer. He was in extreme pain on and off for about 8 months before the doctors found it. They removed 60% of his colon. He was feeling good enough to get around 3 days after the surgery. Checked in on us at work, bummed around and visited family and such. He was back to work 2 weeks later. Modern medicine and procedures are pretty amazing. Best wishes to you for sure. You'll be feeling great in no time.

Thanks guys. About 80 percent will be taken out and recovery is pretty quick, but I'll be in the hospital for christmas. I'm a 20 year old kid too so hopefully I've got a long healthy life ahead. NitroRC, I've had low liver enzymes and such in the past. Had a blood transfusion and some diverison surgery in september and did real well until about 2 weeks ago. I could try some different meds but for me its time to just bite the bullet.

This is becoming far more common.

My wife fought it off about 5 years ago using Pred. She has been battling it's cousin Crohn's Disease ever since which was at the root of the bout with Colitis.

Pretty tough when food becomes an enemy to your body.

Whatever soreness you're going through now will go away, and so will the problem. Finally.
It's always scary going in, but a major relief coming out.

I've done the steroids and they work until its time to taper off them. Mine is considered indeterminate Colitis. Its a combination somewhere between Chrons and Colitis. We'll know more in a week or so when the biopsy results come back.
