Glow Plug problem

I got my lst running today. It ran for about 1/2 a tank, then stalled. Temp was 250-260. I was unable to get it started again. I checked the glow plug and it was a brownish color (the body of the plug) the filament didn't look to be any different. I plugged it into an igniter, nothing. Tried another plug in the igniter, it turned bright red. Put it in the motor, tried several times and could not get it to run. I'm running 20% O'Donnels.

1) What is a good plug for these motors? (I believe it has the stock shim installed)

2) What could be causing the plugs to foul?

3) Is there a good way to check the 'pinch' of the piston and sleeve, other than removing them? This engine seems to turn over by hand pretty easily and I don't notice a real pinch when the piston is at the top.

I'm also having problems man, mine runs fine until i kill it, then when i start it up the 2nd time, the plug is dead

O'donnel 20 is what I have had the best luck with in that mill, there is a great article somewhere in the engines section on glow plugs I just can't find it. There doesn't need to be a hard mechanical "pinch" to still have good pinch. Have you check all the fuel lines to make sure there are no leaks and fuel is getting to the carb ?

If the plug doesn't glow, then no, it's not good. It does however sound like you're low on compression. If the engine is easy to turn over with the plug in, I'd bet your engine is too loose. That would explain hard starts when hot and premature plug failures.

Yes it would, cause shortly after I posted the glow plug question, the con rod blew and put a nice hole in the crank case . I knew I was using the right plugs on it, I think my friend was running it way too lean before I bought from him. He didn't have a temp gun so I almost sure that was the case.
