glow plug length..does it matter ??

my buddy got me some plugs OS no.8 ...and when i saw it , i noticed it had less treads on it , making it a bit shorter than the traxxas plug...i also got an OS LC3, that one is the same length as my traxxas one

the OS 8 works great , even if its shorter ..i even find my revo starts better and has more power ...i just had to grind the tip a bit to fit the ez-start plug ...

just wondering if it affects the engine in any way ?? all i can think of , is a tiny bit less compression ....

would like to know what you guys have to say about that ...

I would have to say that it wont harm anything, as long as its nice and snug in the engine, and the threads aree the same gap.. and by looking at the picture, they seem to be identical threads. I dont think that anyone would make an engine or glowplug that has coarse threads though.. i doubt it would seal. But yeah.. I think it'll be fine

It will have a slight difference in timing, but 3.3's like it when you back off the timing a hare, that's why it runs better. I'd still stick with lc3 on hot days and lc4 on cooler days, but it won't hurt a thing to burn up those #8's.

thanks bud ...it really did make it run better .....from now on , the traxxas plugs or as a last resort only ..lol..

its the same as using a double washer to compensate for humidity/tempurature... my mgt has a larger engine and it loves a shorter plug, or one that is pulled out of the air/fuel stream a bit. Like yours, it just runs much better. I wasn't about to go out and buy all new plugs ( i have plenty) so I just double washer it, and call it a day. (always use fresh/cleaned copper washers not crush washers, or dirty ones - you'll get leaks)
