What glow plug do you suggest I use for my T-Maxx. It has the factory engine in it. I believe my LHS deals mostly with OS plugs, but I also think they have a small selection of McCoy plugs.

I've used both McCoy and OS plugs in my old Maxx. I ran them in my TRX 15 Pro and still run them in my Fantom. I have not seen much change in performance between the plugs from the different manufacturers.

I agree with Sky,
I have tried many different plugs. Stick with a brand name like OS or McCoy and you wont have any problems.

A fresh plug makes all the difference in the world when you are having tuning issues.

Ooops. I guess I was not clear enough. I would like to know what model I should look for. ie. McCoy 59 or OS#3. Something along those lines. TIA.

Believe it or not, the Durratrax Carbon Speed plugs ran best for me. I ran the McCoys, OS, Traxxas and Carbon Speeds and every time went back to the Carbons..... Try one out, you will like it I'm sure!

I use an MC-8 in my Maxx.

Let me see if I got this right. Since, you live in colder weather you would want to use a hotter plug like the MC-59. If you live in a warmer climate like Cali then you could use a cooler plug like an MC-8 or MC-9. Someone corect me if I'm wrong.

I was having some minor problems starting it last night so I threw in one of the A3 plugs I bought and it fired right up. So that is what I am using right now. I am still intersted to hear what others have to say.

On a side note the tip of the OS plug is a little bigger than the other plug. Could I just take an awl and widen out the blue wire so I can use the EZ start system if I wanted to? I wansn't sure so I didn't use it last night. I just used my glow starter.

Good on you for making something work. If that plug keeps things going, no need to change.

As for the blue wire thing, yes. You can widen the female side of the connection to make it work. Men have been doing it for years.
:D

As for the use of the blue wire, I'd say just remove the blue wire and stick with the glo ignitor. Two reasons: First, the blue wire sucks and will die a horrible death in one of a couple of fashions (melt through from riding against the engine head, eaten by the spur gear due to too much slack and a bouncy ride, female connector gets worn out and no longer holds well---got to hate when that happens, etc.) The second reason, is that the glo plug is the biggest draw of power from the battery pack. So you will end up running down the battery quicker trying to use that wire and run the EZ start motor.

Bottom line: If you already have a glo ignitor, use it and remove the blue wire. You'll be much happier. A side note...I'd suggest going to a pull start engine if you are not cool with carrying the EZ start "wand" and the glo ignitor, but you will find a divided camp when it comes to opinions on that topic.

Thanks for the input Sky. I was thinking about that. The compression on the engine is really strong. So for right now I think I am going to leave it as is and enjoy it for the summer. Getting a new engine might be an up coming winter project. Unless I get really bored or find a great deal on an engine. I was looking into a Fantom last winter but I was kinda beating around the bush on it. If I remember correctly you have a Fantom in your T and you swear by it. If I got sick of the pull start idea does someone make a starter box for the T-Maxx or would that require purchasing a bump starter?

I believe that TRAXXAS has made pull starts for both of their T-Maxx engines (TRX 15 Pro and TRX 2.5). You could always remove the EZ start and add a pull start to your stock engine. This removes the weight of the EZ start from the chassis, nice idea.

As for the starter box/bump start question, I know they exist but would have to spend some time looking them up. I'll do that tonight. In the meantime, someone else might chime in or you could run a search of this site. Tailor it to this section of the forum and use search words "starter" and "box". Might turn up some interesting reading. The other place to hit would be the General Nitro section. I know I have seen this question about starter boxes asked a few times.

On the Fantom, that engine just plain rocks. On top of that, Fantom now has a direct drop in .18 engine. We are talking more power. I still have the Fantom 15FR pullstart engine in my T-Maxx, and it still performs. Heck it had my T-Maxx (which is geared for more low end) keeping up with a stock Savage 21. So you know it doesn't lack the sack to do the job.

Cool. Quick question on fuel filters. Which one would you recommend? I asked in a different post of mine but no answer so far. I plan on putting a small order into Tower and I want to get one.

As for fuel filters you have serveral choices. You can go with DuBro, which I believe have a single screen mesh. Dynamite, has a basket type filter. Ofna, has a stone filter, which is supposedly better than screen type filters.

Personally, I run dual Dynamite fuel filters in my 2.5. I run dual Ofna stone filters in my buggy.

My personal favorite!

I like the fact that the one Çh®i§tiªñ put up is clear. You can see if the filter is getting blocked.

I use the basket type made by Dynamite on both of my RCs, and have not had a single problem with them.

I use the Ofna. I like the fact that its large and will add a bit of extra runtime while your on your lid. It also comes with a nifty clip to fasten it to your RC. It un-screws and has a beefy gasket.

The cost is around $8.00 but I have been using one of them for 3 years now.

The Dynamite ones look a whole lot like that....
