ok so i do know the basics of electric cars and all. but i want to harness the power of my batteries and motor. i still have a stock ESC so i figure thats my problem there. but before i go out and buy stuff i want to know if its worth it.

i got a nice peak performance brushed motor and a 2600 mAh 6 cell Ni-MH battery pack for my mini t. whats the best way to get the most out of what i have? would switching to LiPo batteries really make my car go that much faster for the money? what ESC is good for 1/18 or good for getting the most out of my brushed motor and battery set up?

Yes Li-po will make you go faster....it will increase the amperage available giving you more over all power. The more voltage....higher the RPM. Just be care full not to drain the batteries too low or you will slime the cells out.

You always want to fully discharge your batteries before recharging. If you don't have a good peak charger with discharge function, let me know. I've ended up with about 5 mid grade chargers that handle all the functions that most people have. I got most of t hem while acquiring RC's in a package deal, and I just bought my first high end charger to charge my LiPos and it will handle everything I have. The Novak Spy is a good ESC that I know of, and if the castle mamba 25 will work with brushed motors, that's another good one. Plaidfish had a novak spy that he was selling VERY reasonable, so you might want to check with him. I don't know if the brushed motor and ESC will handle LiPo or not.

i have a hobbico 905 charger. it has a charge and discharge function on it. only cost me 35 buck so its probably a cheapo one. the meter sometimes doesn't read right. but when my battery gets low ( usually tell when the car starts slowing down ) i discharge it and than charge it again.

i just want to know that to get more power does it matter what ESC i use. or is it the motor that gets the power? if so i wish i would have just went with a brushless kit.

i just want to get the most out of what i have. the only this thats still stock is my ESC

ill dig up a link for the charger i have. if you have a better one charlie let see if we can work something out =]

Changing the ESC will help a lil, but I don't think it's going to be noticable like what you're looking for. BUT, if you do change the ESC, you will be able to upgrade to a lower turn motor when you want to upgrade, and that WILL improve performance dramatically.

If I were you, I would look really hard at the mamba setups from castle creations. I like there stuff alot. With brushless, you will get a lot more power with a lot more run time. The brushess motors are MUCH more efficient, and basically maintenance free

definitely check out CC. they recently came out with the sidewinder system for the 18th scale. and if i'm right, they have a pro and sport version...sport version costs about 110 bucks

yeah I'm really looking for something i can take to the track. but one that i can also tone down to still be able to use in the house and terrorize my kitties with.

was looking at the 1/18 Xcelorin, but i just dont know what kV rating to get cuz i dont know what that means.

heres the link to the motor, ESC and computer adaptor

oh ok there is a formula for this. i already ordered a 2600 mAh 7.2 volt 6 cell pack. and i want to get brushless. so i divide the voltage by the kV rating?

WOW its amazing how you can be thinking one thing and totally type something else and not even realize!

thanks for correcting me. thats what i meant. and thanks for the formula, that will definetly come in handy when picking a motor!

Just remember, a smaller kv motor that will handle a 11.1 volts (3 cell LiPo) will produce more RPM's than a larger motor that will only handle 7.4 volts. It's always something to keep in mind.

I'm going to get the 7400kV brushless and my 6 cell 7.2V 2600mAh Ni-MH pack so that would be 53,280. that sounds pretty good to me =]

Once you get a LiPo, it's really going to wake that brushless system up. It will be plenty fast with nimh, but just remember if you ever decide that you want more speed, don't replace the motor, just go to LiPo and you will see a VERY signifigant difference.

GREAT! i would go lipo now but i dont have a charger for it and those are alot. so I'm gonna stick with what i got for now and get that brushless system very soon. i already have that bettery pack in the mail. that should hold up nicely on the track =]

Oh it will be fast with the battery that you have. I was just letting you know for future reference. One thing to keep in mind, I heard you say that you might get into 1/18 racing. If you're running club races or sanctioned races, you need to keep all your brushed stuff because there will be limits on what battery, and motor setup you can have. It just depends where you are, and they might have a brushless class. My local track is setting up the rules so that the brushless guys will be able to race without going back to a stock or mod brushed class, but different places have different rules, and most are more strict that ours.

The Trinity NOW has an amazing setup for the price as you might want to take a look at its std features. 41.2 mph on 11.1 li-po. Also includes the charger. This would be a hard price to beat with all the goodies included. There have been some complaints of quality as far as oil in the shocks, etc....
