hey ho everyone,

I'm new to this forum and new to the sport of Nitro RC (about 6 months experience!). I'm wanting to glean the most power out of my crappy little stock AE .12 cos i'm getting roasted at the track dammit :arrr: . I'm not wanting to buy a new engine till this one blows or I start racing. So what is a good pipe manifold combo and what is a good air filter to replace the crappy rubber boot one I've got now?

cheers

As far as an air filter goes there is no substitute for a Motor Saver brand filter. It is the #1 in the industry for both protection and airflow. Motor Saver Hands down.

For the pipe and manifold AE has a great reputation for its stock pipes. You may want to get out the roto tool and port the header.

Tuning, suspension setup, and gearing will play a larger part in in winning races at a local club level than a new pipe or engine. Learn to maximize what you have, get a lot of track time and you will win races.

just got the stock (man it's stock everything arrrgh!) RTR pipe and manifold, thus the reason I wanna move on to bigger and better equipment. Don't regret for a second starting out with the NTC3 RTR though, damn fun to drive and heaps well balanced.

yersh you are right eddy my lap times are coming down tho, and I do need to invest in the AE spring set.... that and my second gear is way to short for the main straight. but I'm sure you can relate to the need for speed!

Take the restrictor out of the carb but make sure you re-tune. The spring set is a good investment and different gears as well, I think they average about $6.50 each.

yeh I took the restrictor out not long after getting it. I was surprised how much of a difference it made. I've been using 15% nitro fuel, would I have to retune the high speed if I were to use 20%?

would I just richen it up by a 16th or an 8th of a turn and then tune from there? same for the low speed needle as far as needing an adjusment goes? never really got any decent results tuning the low speed needle, I just set it at the factory setting and left it alone, it does bog down a little, not so much once it's got heat into

I would richen the hsn at least a full turn just to be save and then go from there. It would be best to go back to the stock settings and then tune from there.

Definitely richen it up. Get your high speed needle set and then work on the low speed. Do you have a temp gun? It helps and it's a good investment at about $25.

been wanting to get one for a while, just something I've not really remembered to get.. I've resorted to the water test for the time being, but being winter down here the daytime temp fluctuates at lot from day to day so a temp gun would be super handy.
