hey guys, just bought new savage x 4.6, 3 speed tranny, hitec 7955 high torque steering servo. i installed tranny, steering servo & moved stock steering servo to throttle / brake before truck was even started. i haven't even made quite all the way through breakin & smoked servo on throttle / brake. not only that i'm going through alot of batteries (i'm using 2600 mah AA rechargables). are these batteries not a good idea? guess i have to buy another f-ing servo & haven't even hardly ran it. any suggestions on a reasonably price servo for throttle / brake would be very appreciated. do i need to get hump battery & charger? if so what should i look at getting? not too pround of hpi company right now. my first nitro is a redcat hurricane xtr, i know everyone bashes redcat but i got 2 gallon through that with not 1 problem & i beat the hell out it!! thanks for help in advance

It's hit and miss when it comes to HPI's servos. I have ran my savage now for 2 years on stock servos with no issues, then others like yourself will have issues with them right away. I would go with another hitec for the throttle servo.

thanks mudslinger. do i need to spend another 100 on a servo for throttle/brake or would something less expensive last?

thanks a bunch ck. that's the info i was looking for. also does anyone know if AA rechargeables are sufficient for these trucks?

Rechargeable are only 4.8 volts when chaeged because 1.2 x 4 is 4.8. A receiver pack that is 6 volts is nearly 6 volts when charged and they last longer when used. They range from 15 bucks to 20 bucks without the charger.

any recomendations for a charger for hump battery? also do they make a battery pack for radio? i ordered a futaba servo as it had good ratings. thanks for info

I like buying the hump packs for the Losi 8ight buggy off of ebay. Granted theyre only 1400mah but they have both the JST and the Futaba type connector so they work with all my kits.....I just carry 3 or 4 of these with me when i go out and they last all afternoon. you can get em off of ebay for decent price. Whatever you buy you definitely want to buy a 6V pack. the 4AA holders are tha suck.

As for your servo Id try and get a warranty replacement from hitec if you just bought it. The hitec servo that was linked here is really good for the money and if you want to get really budget but still have a decent servo you can look at the MG996 off of ebay. They arent as good as the hitec but for 10-12 bucks a piece its hard to complain about them.

Id also look into why you smoked the servo in the first place. Was it just a faulty servo or is there a reason it burnt up? Some kind of binding going on? Servo saver? that kind of thing.

Usually the only complaint that most people have with the XL is the engine can be a PITA to tune. At least thats what I've read. IDK I own a X SS and have never owned the XL.

thanks for help guys. i'm gonna look into getting some hump packs & a charger. just not sure what to get for a charger as there are so many choices. don't mind paying for quility as long as it is quility product. greywolf, my servo that crapped was the stock hpi steering servo that i moved from steering to throttle brake before i ever ran truck & it didn't make it past breakin. so i put stock throttle / brake servo back in for now & ordered a futaba for my savage x 4.6. i think if i try to get hpi to warranty it they will only give me another cheap piece of crap so i just bought a futaba. any advice on battery charger?

I would get another hired servo but this time I would use regular AA batteries. I think that your servo problem has to do with your nah being so high. I have had an older savage for ten years. I just have used AA batteries in it for ever. They don't last very long though. I think that the servo couldn't take all the nah and just burned up. I still have the servos that came with my truck and they work flawlessly.

I always thought "nah" was slang for No......:hehe:

" you want to go to the store?, Nah, ill just stay here"

lil ant thanks for the reply but i'm sure thats not the problem. i've been using the same batteries on my buggy for long time with no problems & my buddy has been doing the same with his t-maxx 3.3 for a long time & that has no problem.
