Hey guys I'm getting a savage x ss soon and I want to sell the 4.6 or 5.9....whichever I get, and get a real badass mill to start with. Just wondering, what are some good drop ins for it?

Those were the top two decent engines for the past few years... with the LRP30 out now though... may be too much punishment for the savage drive train.

My aftershock (heavily modified) handled the LRP28 just fine and could probably deal with the extra torque of the 30 without much hassle.

The LRP28 in my savage likes to make slippers slip, center cups get chewed up and diffs to blow bearings. Still fun and reliable (my primary "go to" truck), but going much bigger/stronger may cause more headaches than it's worth.

From what I understand, the picco 28 has the edge on the LRP 28 but can be a bit more finicky to tune. That said, it's power delivery is more smooth. Again, from the many posts I've read about them on many forums...

grab the picco and send it to robin at extreme rc mods for a modding and you will have the smoothest running most badass engine around 100% guaranteed, check out there website and read the feedback people leave about his great work and take a look at the vids!!

Gearing has a lot to do with how your truck handles as well. I like mine to have stump pulling torque so I gear mine pretty low. A lot of guys seem to want their trucks to go light speed and you can gear it up as high as possible to do so. The stronger the engine the higher you can gear it and still have some torque in the low end.
The two engines that were already mentioned are probably about as good as they get but I always liked my stock K 4.6 in my Savage.:D

Sounds good olds. I don't mind changing driveline parts. It's gotta have balls!!:hehe:

Tell me that after you take your savage apart 10 times due to busted center axles... ;)

I'm with you on the power though. It's a great feeling to know that when you hammer the trigger, that front end is seeing the sky. Getting an engine that isn't overworked means you can run it cooler but still get great performance out of it.
