ok, what general maintenance should i do each time i use the car?

i know i have to clean it after using it....
but is there anythin else i have to do?

greatly appreciated!

which car? some things vary slightly from model to model

especially if you race

i dont race, but i do go flat out

its a Tamiya FS-12SS

I've got a fuel leak, but was told to just tighten the screws on the tank...

After each run, a general cleaning helps. Just to get some of the oil and dirt off the chassis. Give it a quick inspection looking for loose screws or anything like that. Get some after-run oil. Pop out the glow plug and put a few drops into the head. Turn the engine over by hand a couple times to distribute the oil. That will keep the engine from rusting and from gumming up. And check your air filter. Clean it and re-oil it every few tanks.

cheers candyman.... that should help me out pretty well

Don't forget to remove the clutch bell and check for wear on the shoes and clutch bell surface. Scuff it up with 220 grit sandpaper. I usually do this about every 1/4 gallon of fuel. Mostly because I do race. Do the same for your brakes ... clean and scuff the disc and pads.

At least once a month, check your bearings in the steering block and rear hub carriers. Clean and relube them. It's not critical but it is important. Nothing worse than blowing a bearing and/or having it spin in the carrier then lock up.

Also, store it with the piston at BDC to keep the compression longer. Just spin the flywheel when the glow plug is out until the piston is at the bottom of the sleeve, then put your plug back in (or else you'll end up submitting a post in the "Latest Screw-Ups" thread when you take your rig out to run it and forget you have no glow plug in it!)

Not that it's ever happened to me, of course! :ahem:

grease the diff;s
not after every use ,thats alot of work

unless like was stated earlier if your racing and need to change set-ups
after i run mine i use the compresor and blow it off good and check it out for a popped susp pins ot bent 1's just a good lookin over to see if you broke anything
and definatly use after run oil ,i make my own using 1/2 marvel mystery oil and 1/2 tranny fluid
i ahve used that mixture since i started nitro about 2 years ago and never had a problem with it

it's a good habit to get into when th eengine stops running always put the piston to bottom dead center (BDC).....that's the first thing I do when I pick my cars up....check to make sure it's not sitting in the pinch, that wears your engine out real quick letting it do that....
