ok, i did a couple searches, but nothing i found helpful. this is more of a general question, but you guys are my people... so... anyway.

if i want maximum acceleration out of the stock engine i would want a high tooth clucth bell and a low tooth spur, thats what physics says anyway... so why do racers go with the 16-40? high-high? am i missing something?

and, while I'm at it, i plan to buy a tm323 in the next couple months... and i want to try to keep the wheels on the ground. i want to be able to get them off the ground though. so... with my logic, i would want to go low-high. like a 14-40, right? or are there some other forces at work here? would 14-40 not let me pull wheelies?

one more thing... hot racing has even lower tooth clutch bells... and even higher tooth spur gears. help me conquer these demons! thanks :wasted:

Go 16/36, that should help keep you front end planted. I'm running 16/36 with a TM and my front stays put. Also running close ratio in the tranny but that's for the tracks I run at.

Actually, you have it backwards. Go with what jetmech says.

A smaller cb gives you more torque.
A larger cb gives you higher speed (in theory), less torque (most definitly).
A larger spur gives you more torque.
A smaller spur gives you higher speed (in theory), less torque (most definitly).

The reason I say "in theory" is if you gear to tall for your engine, your truck will actually be slower because the engine won't have the power to push it.

Although, running with a 323, your going to be very hard pressed to find a gearing ratio that's too high for it to push your revo around like a rag doll. From the vids I've downloaded, it would be uncontrollable for me, regardless of gearing.

I've been an offroad nitro basher for 5 years and I still drive like crap. I prefer slower speeds and more torque, especially for most of the places I have to bash. Not a whole lot of wide open fields. Besides, if I wanted to go 70mph, I'd have gotten into on-road! ;)

OK, just some I'm straight because it's documented I'm a dink. When you refer to "smaller" and "larger", you're referring to the number of teeth, correct? I've always been confused on this relationship, but Olds' summary makes sense, but I just want to make sure I'm clear on the "smaller" and "larger" references.

Mal, I have the 323 and I run the RRP 16/40 set up, regular tranny gearing. On occasion it will wheelie, but most times it holds pretty flat. There is so much power and torque in that 323 that it needs the bigger CB. If you need more bottom end then go to the close ratio trans gears and leave your CB/spur alone. I can punch it from a standstill 5' from a double and clear a large double easily, nose level, and still hit some incredible straightaway speeds, too.

nice. thanks for the info, guys. now, until i get my RB, to get the MOST torque out of my 2.5R i want 12 teeth going to 42 teeth, right? I'm not worried about top speed by any means, i just want to be able to get the front end up easily with the 2.5R, just to have a little fun with it. am i on the right track now?

That might be a little overkill... but your definitly thinking correctly now.

I run 14/40 with the 2.5R and I get wheelies pretty easily on the grass. And thats running too cold and having crappy response due to cold weather. It should be even more spunky when it warms up out.

ok. i totally had it bass ackwards before. i was thinking speed, not torqe. my physics was correct, just not applicable to this situation. i was thinking faster = "faster". stupid dyslexia... thanks for the help, guys. i guess i could have thought of my 10 speed as a kid... thanks again =)

I know this is old, but I can't find the info I'm looking for....What is the stock gearing for the revo? I have the 3.3 and the front end is too light for it, so I need to regear.

Hey Anybody Know What Spur Gear To USE WITH A 13 Tooth Clutch Bell On A Savage 25 Can I Use The 49 Or Do I Have To Use A 52 Or What
Thanks

I just ordered a 36 if its not good enough I'll try a 16 tooth. I Never had to deal with gearing before buggies are pretty straight forward.

i'm running 16/38 and if i nail the throttle it will wheelie with a tm,i might try that 16/36 ,plus i run the 40 bowties on wabash rims

i tried the the 16/40 ,wheelie on ocasion, had to adjust the shift point ,i'm very pleases:fro:

I wished mine would wheelie once and a while. I've got a TM, not sure on the gearing...the CB is a 14T for sure but don't know abnout the spur.
