Got a problem I can't figure out. Part of the issue is Edge is now my default browser and I'm unable to get it back to Firefox. I've done everything you're about to suggest, and it will not quit. I'm constantly told it's not my default browser since I've checked the box that tells it to check. Nothing I've tried will stop Bing from over-riding what I want.

Next issue, I am unable to open pics or video clips in the settings I've chosen. One at a time I have to select "Open With" to open them and they will only open with Windows Media. Pics, video clips, PDF files and desktop internet shortcuts all give me the message, "Invalid Value for Registry". I can't even get here without going to the browser an searching for this site. WOW, do I despise Windows 10.

I've run virus checks and 2 different malware programs and Zemana was able to find 3 issues, one in ie search, one in ie homepage and one in Avast, but cleaning the issues did not change anything.

Just curious, are you using W10 Home or W10 Pro? In either case, are you fully up to date?

I had edge issues on a work PC, but was due to work limiting updates... but noone there could tell me how to update. So I had to download the manual update to a usb, then install that. Took forever, but was finally able to get to the current W10 version which had updates in Edge to fix the issues I was having.

From all the issues you've posted, I don't think it's just Windows 10 only that's causing your issues. Have you tried Malwarebytes for a scan? It's been my go to for a long time now. Even then, sometimes a format and fresh install is faster and easier than tracking down every little issue.

Yep, something is forcing this (malware, etc)

Agreed, you got some nasties going on in there from the sounds of it. Stop watching porn without an adblocker :D

The April Windows update caused some issues with a lot of computers, but this is something new and it's not part of it. Running Malwarebytes was the first thing I did. Then it was a full scan by Avast. Both came through clean. Zemana was another malware program I read about and it came up with 3 issues.
Does anyone know what the message "Invalid Value for Registry" refers to or what would have changed it?
A few years ago I had a browser hijack and was able to remove the browser from the computer. This one is Edge and according to what I've read you can't remove it since it's attached to MS.

It sounds to me like an application is looking for a DWORD of other registry string that has been modified or isn't there anymore in the registry hive, so the application is reporting as much.

I'm running 3 different blockers. Any more and it would block the sites I go to.
That's one of your problems right there. When you run more than one they interfere with one another and don't do their jobs. Use one good one. More isn't always necessarily better.

As HPIGuy says, something either corrupted or deleted a registry entry. You're either gonna have to run a program to scan and tell you which one so you can replace it manually with regedit or get it taken care of. Easy way is just to reformat the thing and reinstall windows if you don't know what you're doing. 100% fixed though.

I'm waiting for another 4Tb external drive and when that arrives I'll have everything doubled up on backups and I'll be doing a full factory restore. I won't be doing the 'non destructive' restore that will not remove files or programs since I want to make sure nothing will be hiding to attack again. Nothing has been found as a virus and being unable to open pics, flicks, Pdf files, desktop shortcuts to internet sites and Microsoft games like solitaire, I no longer have a clue. Starting almost from scratch, but it will solve the problem in far less time than I've already wasted trying to figure it out.

I'm about to do that. It's currently loading the last of my files to an external HD and then I'll first do a non-destructive reinstall of the OS. If I still have issues I'll do the full factory reinstall. I'm about to take a screen shot of my desk top so I'll know what programs and shortcuts I had.

That is completely un-needed and will cause issues.
I use certain ones on certain sites. Some ad blockers work better than other for certain popups.
Update. I ran the non-destructive system restore today and other than having to reinstall some programs and apps, everything seems to be back to normal.

Seriously, you're doing it wrong then. There is zero need for 3 ad blockers. Add uBlock Origin to Firefox and/or Chrome and that is all you need. If by some rare chance something is getting by then simply add a rule to block it... don't add 2 or 3 more ad blockers.
