I am getting a new comp soon here. I want to build it to a gaming machine. Any reccomendations on must haves? Money is not a big factor...

I will be playing games like half life 2 and first pearson shooters.

Recomendations on shooter games?

No body here plays games on the computer?

CPU speed isn't a big deal like it used to be. Get something fast but it doesn't have to be the fastest chip on the market. Spend your money on IO. Fast Bus speed, Fast drive, Lots of Fast Ram, and most of all a better then average 256 meg video card.

Look at spending 300-600 on the video card. It is the most important factor in gaming. Don't forget a GOOD 19 inch or better flat LCD.

4 gigs of ram, 512mb video card... I dunno... Check out Alienware.com... they make some sick comps!!!

alien ware comps r so over rated i say go dual graffics cards and a lot of ram
heres a link to the stuff u need to run dual graffics cards

find.pcworld.com/47506

fast dual channel ram , wd raptor 10,000 rpm hard drive if moneys not really a prob put 2 or 3 of these in a raid 0 configuration i havent looked for a while what the top video card is these days but fast eddys right you will be dropping $400 - $600 on one ...

personaly i have found it to be a loseing battle to have a top end computer gameing machine, the cost is crazy & within a year you will probily want to upgrade again because of a new hot bloated game .....just buy a ps2 or a xbox, jon's got a xbox set up that looks sweet for $200 shipped ...a third of the cost of a top end video card alone! not to mention everything else youd need ..jmo

I have an xbox...I just want to be able to lay computer games. They look fun...

the only game i play on the comuter is tiger woods 2004. I'm a pretty big golfer and that game is addicting! anyone else play that?

4 gigs of ram !!! man he isn't looking to run a server ... i can run all games with no issues with 1 gig of ram ... (2 sticks of 512mb in dual channel) get a good high end video card (main item for gamer now) as fast eddie said cpu speed is no longer an issue.. spend the money in high speed ram and a high speed motherboard and a good high end graphics card .... also don't forget abou a sweet sound card and surround sound (much needed for them fps games )

also if i can suggest get SATA drives and run them in raid ... the wd raptors are mega fast ....

AMD FX-55
1 Gig DDR ( I'm tellin ya , you wont need much more)
Gigabyte Mobo
300 gig hd ( or 2 200 gig hard drives and stripe them)
sound blaster audigy zx
ATI x850 platinum edition or dual 6600 gt SLI (dual 6800 ultra's would be too much right now because there 500 bucks a pop)
Dvd drive and a dvd burner
(This all costs a good coin but it will put out)

-- For gaming^^^^

Pentium D 3.2 ghz
1 Gig DDr
Gigabyte or DFI mobo
300 gig hd
sound blaster audigy zx
Nvidia 6600 gt

- For some gaming (dont expect every game to run at maximum quality settings) and video editing and apps -- probably best bang for buck....

Btw-- 4 gigs of ddr is bs you will have a hard time filling up a gig ... don't waste your money you could use that upgrading your video card or even buying a decent flatscreen ( look for one that has less than a 10ms response time or you probably won't be happy with it because most flat screens tend to always look like they have lag.. if you can't deal with lag just stick to a crt)
