I just picked up a Whistler 35R Radar/Laser Detector. Hopefully this'll keep some of the cops off of my bumper.

Lately, I'd swear they're following me. I'm not speeding (at least not that much) but they like to convene to me. Don't know why.

Sweet. I used to have one in my old Jeep, but it never seemed to work and went bonkers every time I passed a Wal-mart.

What all does the thing do (Besides tattle-tale on the 5-0)

Bustedgears its a conspiracy the govenrment has planted a tracking device in it and are monitoring your every movement, they will come while you sleep lmfao :jk:. I have never had one but a friend of mine did and it went nuts like Tweak said everytime we went past a walmart or electronic store it was kind of funny

Laser, Radar, lets me know when a cop is looking for radar detector, Picks up three bands of radar, 360 degrees.

I'm gonna try wannarunem's radar gun and a local cop's radar gun and see if it picks it up.

All radar detectors can be 'sensed' with the right radar gun. See if your radar detector has a stealth mode. I had the same problem till I set mine to 'stealth'. Note; it isn't legal in all areas, like Washington DC. Check the paperwork that came with it for details.

I had a really nice one, that talked and would tell ya about bad weather coming and backed up traffic, but I got pulled over once and the cop took it. I guess there illegal in Mn. basterds..

If you have a car like mine that has a din-and-a-half (GM) radio, there are radio faceplate adapters with radar detectors built in, that match the dash. It even has a cover to it. If the cop claims that you have a radar detector, simply flip the cover over it (before he gets near you) and hide it...

Outside of that, I doubt they're illegal in MN. After all, they fall under a safety device, if you get one that detects the signals that emergency vehicles use to change traffic lights.

Probably the reason the cop took it, is because it scrambled his radar. That feature itself is illegal in MN. However, detectors themselves are not.

Here is a site ran by a former cop;
http://www.radarbusters.com/support/choosing-detector/radar-detector-laws.asp

It has alot of information on what and where you can't use.

the reason they go crazy ar wal mart and the like is because they use RADAR to sence when to open the front doors.. auto doors will make just about any radar detector go bonkers.. so will some traffic lights..

If you set it to the "city" setting, it cuts down on the false reads from automatic doors and stuff as well. Just be sure you switch it back to "highway" when you're on one.

welcome.. figured i would answer since hes at work and wont be on for a good bit..

Well I doubt that a police officer would confinscate it if it wasn't illegal. I called later to see if I could get it back, and they said no, and that devices like that were illegal in the state of Minnesota. I even tried to tell them I use it to check the weather and for bad traffic, and they told me there were things to purchae like that without the radar detector on it, and to purchase one of them. So basically I was poop outta luck. Mobile scanners are also illegal here in Mn. But yet are still for sale in Mn. Kinda stupid.

Andy ,Oregon is the same way, last time i checked they were illegal there, but you could still buy them, still puzzle's me why that is.Thank god there legal in washigton, that's gonna be the first thing i pick up.

Best thing ya could do (and I know it's a headache), is to go to your states' DMV and pay $7 for a copy of the Vehicle Code. Research it in there, and if it's legal, you've got grounds to get your detector back (if they still have it).

I live in California, myself, and have one. Course, mines' a little cheapo one that I traded an old amplifier for, so no big loss if it gets taken. I plan on getting one that fits in the dash, with a cover, at a later date.

edit; here's MITs site with a list of the laws; looks like they're legal in MN to me, so long as they don't contain a scrambling device.

I really find it hard to believe that if something is Illegal, it is usually for sale up at wal-mart. I have seen all kinds of stupid laws concerning radar detectors and such, but that gives a police no reason to go into your truck and snatch it... When did this happen?

My dads also gotten a ticket for them being illegal. (He was actually driving my truck) but they didnt take it at least. I called the next day after I got pulled over and confinscated and they said that being it was illegal, they wouldnt give me it back. I asked why they sell them here and they basically told me that it was stupid that they sell them here, and told me again it was illegal. I have a buddy who is a cop here in town and even asked him if he could get it back for me and he told me I was poop out of luck. And also told me that radar detectors only work when the radar gun is on, so a trick they do now is if they see a potential speeder, right when in range they will turn the gun on, and by that time your already screwed. Anyway I was pretty pissed cuz I paid over $300 for my detector like 3 weeks before it got confinscated. basterds.

But yeah theres alot of stuff thats illegal but they still sell it. At least in Mn.. They blue tinted headlights are illegal here in Mn. but you can go to any auto parts store and buy a set. Also under body neon, is illegal, but yet they sell it all over. Window tint. You can go into any tinting place and get your windows tinted however ya want, But in mn. the law is 50% all the way around with the exception of the back window which can be 30%. (This is all stuff I have been nabbed for). And recently a buddy of mine had boughten a glass pipe (For tobacco of course..hehe) and on his way home he got pulled over and he had it sitting on the seat (In a clear bag) so it wouldnt get broke, and he got a perafinilia (Sp?) charge for it and it wasn't even used, and was told it was illegal to even have it in possesion. He asked why they sell it then, and even told them he smoked tobacco out of it (lol) but he still got the $90 fine and now has a parafanilia charge on his record. It was total bullshit.
