Today I bought a micro Komodo, the guy at the rc store said, “it’s just a swap, no mods necessary” boy was he wrong!
Looks like I gotta modify a few things but I haven’t started. Any tips you guys wanna share before I start this mod?
Thanks 🙏

What ESC are you running? I can't believe they said it's a simple swap unless they already knew you have a brushless ESC in it.

Looks as though it's been fairly modded already. Hard to give any tips without know what's already done.

I already have a furitek lizard pro esc and bluetooth module, I swapped the electronics to the back and the battery to the front.
I see the cedar is cheaper at $59 on amazon. I wonder if that is a better option as far as installation goes.

This should be nothing more than removing the driveshaft set screws and the 3 transmission screws I think. Maybe a bit of trimming. The cedar on Amazon is just the motor mount and motor. No transmission.

Trim the electronics plate I gather? Which I use as the battery mount.
With the cedar I could use the stock transmission on the plate or do I absolutely need the stellar transmission?
Thanks

If you trim that electronics tray to clear the motor, it will require you to remove the driver side rear mounting pount for the tray. Then the driver side shock has nothing to keep if from flopping around. I did that on one of my trays and there was no way I was leaving it like that, so I flipped the skid plate around and mounted the motor backwards.

You could however try these, as they use two mounting screws. But I am not sure if the screw in the rear would interfere with the motor or not.

So once you flip the skid plate and motor backwards, do you have to trim the battery tray?

Is the cedar the same thing or is that one just a swap since it’s much smaller?
Thanks guys 👍

Yeah, you would trim clearance in the battery tray. You may have to move your Rx back a bit. Or you can buy this, which changes your center of gravity as well. A bit pricey, but nice stuff. And it comes with an angled ESC tray. This would require you to mount your battery horizontal, but it will lower your COG quite a bit if it works. You still may have to do some trimming.

Wow, seems like a ton of work…oh well. My rc store just gives you store credit so I’m stock with this motor looks like. I tested it and man! The slow is “slow” and the fast is “fast”! 😂.

Update: It seemed harder than it actually was, all I did was to trim the electronics tray, I can still sit the electronics in the battery tray and the battery in the middle.

Yeah, I had to hack up my ESC/RX tray also.

I really think it was worth it. The motor is so dang smooth and it has a lot of torque.
Thanks guys for always helping me out 🙏.
NP. I love mine too. I'm about to put the Furitek Minuteman transmission and the 7500Kv Greyhound motor in a build but that wont be my next build. My next build is getting a Lizard Pro and the Cedar motor. :)
