Well the verdict is in...and these ESCs are absolutely awesome! Never dealt with XC until now but I guarantee it wont be the last time! Historically I have always ran Castle Creations ESCs when I think of maximizing a setup and they have been solid performers but do carry somewhat of a hefty price point. Don't get me wrong they perform magnificently but not everyone has CC money. That problem is solved thanks to XC, the new kid in town that's making waves across all scales. My first experience came when building a custom rig for a customer that wanted good performance but nothing over the top. He was going to simply take it out on the weekends and run a few packs through it on an array of surfaces, nothing to hardcore like skate parks or construction sites. Electric wise he was after middle of the road so we quoted him a moderate power setup that would land him ideally in the middle of the power band. I ordered 2 ESCs form XC direct via Amazon(I will include a link at the bottom of this thread). The first one we soldered up and installed went into my personal rig(Et48.3 fitted with a 4990 1650Kv Brushless) for field testing and it replaced a Mamba Monster 8S. I set out to run this ESC hard & push it's limits on 4S and eventually 6S. It handled it everything I threw at it without batting a lash, I was expecting a slight drop off in performance moving to the XC C8 from a CC MM8S and quite frankly that drop off never came to fruition! After running a couple full packs through it, the temps were not that high (115F-ish) and the performance remained steady even near the lvc(set at 3.4v per cell). We called it a day and I went home, soldered up the second one and installed in my customer's build with confidence & without hesitation. For the price point, there is nothing...I repeat nothing comparable for the price that comes with Bluetooth OTA programming for under $100 USD! I am heading into 90 days of use in my personal rig with no issues to report whatsoever and I'm still in awe of the engineering to price point value this ESC brings to the table! Below is how we'll rate electrics now and in the future that come across our workbench. Here is the comparison of the pros and cons of investing in a XC C8 ESCs:
Pros:
*Price: Range between $75-$100 USD, may be found cheaper with discounting and promotions.
*Presentation: Comes neatly packaged with 3M double sided tape for mounting, 6.5mm bullets, spare wires & clear, concise instructions.
*Build quality: Black anodized CNC casing with 40mm cooling fan attached, 10AWG wires, push button, covered power switch that's mountable.
*Connectivity: Bluetooth OTA programming built-in that only takes minutes to connect and programs with ease. User will have to solder connector of choice on ESC. We recommend QS8 for maximum performance and to prevent dips in voltage under heavy throttle.
*Fun factor: Extremely high and gratifying when you weigh the cost to feature ratio, easy setup allows you to get right into without all the formality and red tape
Cons:
*6S Lipo limitation but for most that will be suffice.
*Sensorless set up, look to a pro model if you would like a sensored setup.
All in all I can't recommend this ESC more than I already have. It impressed me and I'm sure I'm not the only out there that will take note! It's a PERFECT choice for the budget conscious consumer running anything from 1/12th scale to 1/8th scale that wants fast, reliable fun without complex set up. If anyone purchases one and has questions, feel free to shoot me a message and I would be glad to assist you!
