Hey, I have a Savage SS that is a couple tanks out of break-in and I am now trying to tune the truck. What I noticed is I will fire up the truck, run it so it gets up to running temp. After this I have about 3/4 tank left. I will make a few adjustments and everything will be dandy. Then as the fuel level goes down (under 1/2 tank) the engine starts to reeaally lean out. Is there a way I can fix it so the tank stays pressurized or what?
Thanks,
mlb.

That's common. It's because there's more space in the tank for the exhaust pressure to go in. So it just can't really pressurize properly. It's more noticable with bigger tanks.

The best way to combat it is to tune the engine at half a tank. You will run rich at full tank, then it'll slowly start to lean out until it gets to the bottom. But it won't be as drastic of leaning out by the end of the tank if you tuned it at a full tank.

I haven't noticed more bubbles since doing the mod. My engine runs consistently from nearly full to nearly empty.

Hmmm, well i'll keep that mod in mind whenever i break in my Wasp .28. Are you running a primerless tank? If so, how hard is it to get fuel to the carb?

Check out this thread from savage central

It quite a bit to read but doing the mod will cost you one bic pen. It was cheap to try and it works for me so I am keeping it.

Yup, I'm running a primerless tank with my WASP. To make it easier to start, heat up the block with a hair dryer to make the engine internals expand and loosen up a bit. Much easier starting and will save your one way bearing!

Thanks, I'm starting to read up on the uniflow mod that sweetdiesel gave (thanks again).I believe this will solve the problem.
