RC Driving Style
Well, I got the XTM tuned the best I thought I could last night, and I still wasn't happy with the way it ran. It was well within temp limits, but I thought there was just a bit more I could pull out of it.

I yanked the fuel tank out of the XTM X-cellerator. It fit in the stock maxx tank spot just fine, actually better than the stock one. The layout of the tank keeps the fuel below the carburator at all times, making it a bit easier to tune. The size, and sturdyness of the X-C tank also keeps it from loosing pressure as it runs near out of fuel. I couldn't tell I was running low on fuel, it would just die rather than go leanbfor a minute or two.. dfinetaly a worth while mod.

After tuning several engine on the maxx, I am fully convinced the stock maxx tank just blows.

I noticed when you fill the stock tank the fuel is above the carb, and pours right into the carb via gravity. After you aree about half tank the carb then has to suck what fuel it needs up out of the tank makign it a bit leaner at mid tank and below. Not only does the fuel change from ebing gravity fed, to pulling it up hill, the tank is so large, and un supported pressure drops at half tank makign it even leaner.

On any maxx I buy from now on , the tank is coming out to make way for a stock X-C tank. An awesome fit, and great for tuneability. Not to mention A stone filter ans splash guard in the bottom. I'll get some pics up tonight if I have time.
 
that tank looks like a nitro rustler fuel tank. lower center of gravity, and smaller cc. i noticed a difference when i switched from the stock t-maxx tank to the OFNA 1/8th scale 125cc fuel tank, same cc just lower center of gravity. get the pic up so we can see.

I was just wondering would not the length of fuel line from the tank to the carb be part of the problem for the tuning. Making it run rich.
 
I was running a long line with a filter before. I Could not get the thing to tune for the life of me, I could get it in a decent range, but not the sweet spot.

So I replicated the exact setup it had on the X-C and found it was easier to tune. I replaced the lines and tank, and removed the filter all in one fell swoop. Maybe I should lengthen that thing a bit and see if it helps even more. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Lykan- i dont think i would run my truck with my fuel tank hangin out like that, a good roll and smash. can u have the body on with that tank?

I think the looks are a bit decieving.(sp?) it doesn't stick out too far for me. The tires, shock towers and all that would definetaly hit in a rollover/tip/cartwheel. A stray rock from the front I might worry about if the tank wasn't built so well. It's about 2x as thick as the T-maxx tank.

I bash pretty hard as you can see, I will let you know if I have any trouble.

**edit* Ayup the body fit just like it did before. The body goes out a little past the chassis on each side .
 
Good eye lol..My son took them off to put on heavier springs. He lost the cap on one shock that holds the bottom of the spring. (don't ask me how)

I didn't figure it would handle too well with three so I left 'em off until I get some caps :confused: Sure does handle different heh..
 
what kind of body are u running? i have a Pro-Line F-150 body i think, and the sides rub right on my roll cage. u must have a wide body.

i got a whole zip-lock bag full of misc shock parts, eye let things, show retainers, the bottom shock things, spacers.. PM if ur intrested.

This is the body I'm running, ImBroken sold it to me with the maxx :D he did a nice job on the lid (thanks IB, it still looks good.)

PM me on those parts if you would :D I'm interested.

i remember seein that body, its sweet, ur lucky to get it, but i wouldnt run that thing. that body doesn't look anywider then mine is. u got a PM

You might want to put 4 on the rear and 2 on the front. Most of the weight is on the rear anyway. It may help some until you get the shock fixed.
