It was a great day to get out and finally get to run my truck today. I have been out of this for some time but I think I got the tune down finally today, It seemed it was cutting out at first when wot'd but appears after I opened up the hsn that problem went away and I got the lsn to where it should be according to the pinch test however it seems to want to creep forward when sitting still and idle seems a little off. does this have to do with the idle set screw as I adjusted it some but gave up after running into a curb and breaking my lower front arm that I just replaced :(

Other concern is I seem to have fuel on my chassis on the right rear and I can not tell if I am leaking from the manifold or the engine , I have a long deflector so it shouldn't be from exhaust

Have a look through my tuning guide in the nitro talk section in the sticky's, it should answer most of your questions.

If the pinch test is good I would say go after the idle set screw, note that the idle set screw is not a mixture adjustment so it won't screw with the tune,as for the fuel, does it look like it is in line with your flywheel,if so this would suggest that the front bearing is bad,if its not in that spot try cutting a little bit off the fuel line where connects to the carb, sometimes a small crack in the tubing forms there

I tuned based on your post Robin as that is probably one of the best tuning guides I have read, however I may need to read it again, thanks, I will go look that over again hotrodrob as now you got me wondering, I don't have much time on this engine for the front bearing to go out however It has been sitting for over a year , close to 2 years.

Make sure to re-read the idle gap setting below the tuning guide, that will make a big difference on how the engine settles down if it's not set correctly.

Back in the day I had a megatech engine ,ran about a quart through it and wound up letting it sit oiled for years, about a year ago I went to use it and the front bearing leaked bad

The rubber bearing seal can go or pop out and cause some leaking issues, but the front bearing does not seal the engine. It shouldn't have any effect on the tune unless the bearing itself is worn out and let the crank wear into the block, that would cause tuning issues for sure as the air tight seal created between the crank and block would be compromised. Try it again with the info you now have and let us know what you find. :)

I went and looked at it a little closer and it looks like it may be the hose on the carburetor however I have not ruled out that it could be I am having both problems. I can tell that it had been leaking at the connection of the carb , now I need to determine if that leak cause the fuel to get on the flywheel causing it to spin a trail up the side of the pipe. Will make this my sunday project. What can a guy use as a gauge to the 1.0 mm gap in the carb?

lmao, I was about to ask what size but hey never thought about that, I was in my part store today looking for something but no luck..thanks again

Nice breakdown 4910, that should clarify things a little better.

Thank you, the number size size drill bit's were the closest thing I could find locally that were small enough & very close to the metric sizes need without braking the bank to get them. :)

as I am looking this thing over it is really difficult to determine where I am leaking from, there is no doubt about the hose to the carb but not certain on the front bearing and it seems that I may be loosing some from the the header. Is there a way to pressurize these things to determine for sure? am i making to big of a deal out of this?

Have you run it since fixing the fuel line?

well I have not got that far per now I have to wait until I get my new arm, I am making a list of things I need to order and the more I can put on the order the more likely I can save a little. what do you suggest, should I put a little fuel in it and fire it up and let it idle? will I get any results by doing that?

Dude I would just put on some new fuel lines and run it,does it run well, does it hold a tune? If so then Dnt make a big deal out of it ,just clean that spot and note how quikly and how much fuel/oil returns there, then let us know.
