Thought I had kinda learned to tune. But I changed from top fuel to byrons race gen2. Both 20% and can't get an idle anymore to save my life!!! I have read all the tuning guides a million times and went to the flowchart which said to set gap at 1mm which I've always had and if it wouldn't idle to start leaning lsn. But it seems like I lean it to the point where it won't even start anymore. Trimmed up throttle just to see and all it does is engage clutch and wanna take off on me. The idle just tapers off and then dies no idle up which tells me the lsn is rich. Can't tune if I can't keep it running. Lol HELP!!!

A lot of times a problem that seems like a tuning issue could actually be an air leak somewhere. This is especially the case if you are trying to correct the tune and not seeing any change in the way the engine is running.

If you havent already sealed the engine I would start there and after that inspect all of your o-rings on your exhaust and fuel tank lid. Also check or replace your fuel line and see if that solves your problem.

I thought about sealing it but its basically a whole brand new setup. Motor exhaust header and all new gaskets. Less then a quart ran after run in. And it ran perfect before fuel change.

Try setting the gap at a hair less than 1mm.

I gotta say this worked well for me. For the longest time I had my .15 pro with a fairly large gap, but I found a small paperclip, made the gap as big as the end of it then made it just a little smaller and the engine idles even better now.

I didn't change fuels or anything. I noticed the idle was too high when I put the engine in my tmaxx, so that's why I played with it.

when i changed from pos top fuel to byrons, i had to richen everything up. +1 on starting over at factory settings

I don't always suggest starting at factory settings, but in some cases it's the best thing to do.
Pitlover, I'd go about 1/2 a turn richer than stock with the hsn if I were you, it can't hurt.

ok thanks. i went to factory but had just started on the lsn. Ill richen up the high side and see ehat that does.

Top fuel runs a really high oil content. With byrons, your tuning window will be less forgiving, so small changes will make more of an impact than a higher oil content fuel like Top fuel.

I never ran top fuel, but a buddy of mine used to. He switched to odonnels because it had less oil... I ran odonnels once and it has an insane amount of oil! I can't imagine what was in top fuel!

I run byrons race fuel now in all my rigs. Trx2.5, 3.3, LRP28's. All of them like byrons 25%.

O'donnell has a few different fuels. I switched from top fuel to O'donnell's a few years back and it ran way better than top crap....The O'donnell's I used was 14% oil. Then I switched to Byron's 20% and 30% gen 2 mixed 50/50 for an oil content of 11.5%....I'll never go back!
