Ok from a nee guy point of veiw.
Point- Only registered user can browse.
How do you think I found this site? "google it baby" What made me stay? The wealth of knowledge at my finger tips. No registraition. I didn't have to give out my e-mail, I just browsed in learned what I could.
The members and the attitude made me want to post my thanks, That's why I registered, to have my say. I have gone to various R/C sites where I have to register first, never make it past the first page. Why register when I can browse here for free?
What made me stay.
The wealth of pictures and features. Pictures make the post, they keep people interested. Closing the gallery closes off a lot of interest.
What can we do?
Host your own stuff.
If you have the room, host your own sigs. every time someone clicks on apost your in, it has to hit up your sig. Three posts, with three replys. Thats Nine hits, everytime just one person reads your active threads.
Say each thread has 60 views. At Nine hits per view, that's 1620 hits to your sig. That's if your only active in three threads.
How big is your sig? 100kb? that = 162000kb a total of 162meg for your three threads. (is my math right?)
Thats means each sig is responsible for a good part of the bandwidth. So If you can host your sig, do it. If you can't make it as small as possible.
Make pics as small size wise as you can.
When you post your pics to the gallery, I bet the only real concern has been load time. Did you know sizing down your picture by just 33% can cut the size down to almost half?
Don't refresh so much.
Ok I'm sitting here bored, looking at the new posts
(and watchin tv). I have become accustomed to hitting the refresh button for something to do. POP, there's a new thread, lets see what its about. Just by hitting that button less I could save a load of bandwidth.
Sponsors
If you're getting thees kind of hits, some people should be willing to pay well for advertisments on the front page, where you post news. Tell prospective advertisers to do a google search for problems with their RC, and see how many times this site comes up

. You get a lot of unique hots a day too.
We're not the general R/C crowd. A lot of members here are full blown addicts with good jobs. we blow money like...err spend money on our hobby religiously. If they have a good prouct, advertising here is a good thing.
Fun stuff.
Got any junk laying around? A few battery packs? That old lid you'll never paint? You know the stuff you send to other members as a courtesy for shipping costs Do a Ebay auction of your unwantd stuff, and pay-pal the 2-3 or even $5 profit to RCNT.
Reviews.
I had a hardware review site, at it's prime it was getting 4-5k its a day. The cost is what made me shut it down. One the best hit makers/support deals was products for review. I did a give away and sent them out for free. You could write companys for a review product. Do the review, and then raffle off the product when you're done
Donate.
Well if we like the site and use it enough to justify it (I do), donate what we can when we can. Think about it when you have that extra $5 in pay pal. I'll be sending some in a day or two. $5 isn't much to me, and i really is worth it. How much money have you guys saved me in crap fuel, engine rebuildds, servos, and gas going to the LHS to have the answer my q's.
The fact is Woodie, and his members has made a kick ass site as-is. It draws members like mad. You really shouldn't limit or change something that is as damned succesful as it is. To make the site more successful, I see adding features, and function as the community grows and needs it.
I am assuming Woodie wants to see his site get even bigger, with more members, and more friends. Hows this going to happen with the current state of things. It's just keeeping this within the budget that's the problem.
To sum it up what can we do as members?
Conserve
Make your sigs smaller, or have them hosted.
Make your pictures as small as you can. and keep the detail.
Host your own stuff if you can.
Don't hit refresh so much.
If your good friends use E-mail instead of Pm's
Delete your old pm's and worthless pictures.
Just some ideas. For you all, and something to think a 'bout.
Anyone got any other ideas?
**edit**
Woddie, I understand this is your hobby. I also understand that you don't want people to be forced to pay. I agree. Please don;t feel bad for the money you recieve, or for getting donations. Don't feel bad that other people ask either.
It's your hobby, but OUR community. Just like a town, a neighborhood, or anything else. It's only as good as you make it. We don't expect you to pay for our community Woodie. Look at it from our point of veiw as well.
