Ok, I lost the power to the rear. Either my differential is gone or something in the transmission. The rear end seems to spin and turn the wheels and driveshafts ok. I'm thinking its the transmission at this point. What could cause just front wheel drive?

You may want to check the central drive shaft to the rear to make certain the grub screw that holds the cup to the drive axle is actually connected. Those grub screws tend to fall out. What you end up with is a drive shaft that looks functional, but it just free spins when the tranny starts to drive it. If the rear diff seems to be functional, I would check the central drive shaft at the point where it enters the diff. That cup might have lost its grub screw.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is the within the transmission itself.

Yeah can't see where it would be the transmission itself. IMHO if you are getting power down to the front wheels than the transmission is doing it's job. Sky has given you good advice. Check the grub screws on the tranny output cup and the differential hook up cup as well. Ya know where the doggie rides. If the grub screws are in place than you might oughta check the diff itself. I can't imagine that power will get to the front wheels and not to the back wheels and have it be a bad transmission.

I say check the rear differential...
while you opened it up do a spyder diff convertion...
that could be your problem...
or the cup joint...

just tear the bad boy apart ...
that's the only way you learn so you don't have to ask as much questions...
that's how everyone learns...

I recommend all newbies tear apart there savages if it was a RTR to learn and understand the savage..
plus it makes it easier to know which part to take off to get access to it.
instead of ripping it apart all the time...

Well, I was going to tear into it, until I saw that the rear diff looked ok and spun the shafts fine. I check that grub screw because I have had that area apart for the HPI twin brake disc set-up.

I have had my Savage torn down pretty far. Come on its normal pratice for a Savage!!!
