Front end damage (Very Minor!!!)

GS Storm...Today i broke the damn thing trying to be a bad ass in front of some neighborhood kids. I'm having a brain fart and can't remember what the part is called where the red arrow is pointing to in the first pic. Whats it called? Should i upgrade the plastic to aluminum?

Could someone post a link to some aluminum ones? I've never been able to find them..anywhere. (if you have one)

It came down sideways and landed on the front arm against a sidewalk. The chassis is ripped and bent at the screw holes.

Actually that's a bulkhead. As far as damage goes that is pretty minor. I bet you could have made a field fix with zip ties and duct tape.

It's called a "Lower Hinge Pin holder", stock part# GS-ST018. The aftermarket ones come in two versions. A 3 degree set part# GS-STP11 and a 1.5 degree set part# GS-STP12. The aftermarket sets are 7075-T6 grade aluminum.

These are the Ergal aftermarket ones.

I wasn't so lucky with my holders. As you can see by the photo, the chassis gave way before the holder did.

If you need to replace your chassis, this is the one I went with.
HardCore Titanium.

I couldnt wait till tonight to search...i got ants in my pants. I searched horizon hobbys site for the dynamite ones but they are out of stock. Any where else that i can order those from? The aftermarket ones that militarymaxx posted are sweet to..kinda high, but sweet. . I'm gonna load up on some stock ones after i decide which aluminum ones to get.

Good call. As inexpensive as the stock ones are, it will definately get you by until you can get the better ones. Keep in mind that if you upgrade those to aluminum that they probably won't be the weak point anymore. You new weak point might be one of the arms, a bulkhead or a number of other parts. You got out of it cheap with this accident if all you broke were the holders.

As you can see from my picture I've had the screws fail. That hurts when the screw is flush. I've only been successful once with the dremel and removing the screw. :-/ Maybe I should invested in a quality set of Easy Out's for the next time.

nice job man, is that ur first big crash? good choice waitin till the part breaks before going to aluminum, saves on the cash.

later

The screws I use are slightly longer then the hinge pin holders, so when they snap off they are easy to get out with pliers on the other side. I've only had one screw snap and I hit a curb at full throttle due to a radio problem.

I have the Dynamite holders as well, and they are just as good as the Storm Pro ones. Same metal, etc. And they are the cool looking red.

Once you get the metal hinge pin blocks, make sure you lok-tite them well and check them whenever you get the chance. The chassis is only likely to rip out if the screw is loose, because the screw can smack the edge hard if you crash.

GS upgraded the front lower suspension arms at some point after my storm was manufactured. The new ones have more plastic near the hinge pin - it probably keeps them from breaking easy. I had one break, got two new ones, and it's been great since.

Horizon has been out of the dynamite parts for months. You may want to contact dynamite directly and see if you can order from them. I had to do that with my hardcore shock tower in the rear; horizon wasn't restocking it but Hardcore had a few in stock.
