Yesterday my maxx started to foul a glow plug in about 10 minutes of run time. I am pretty sure this is because of how rich it is running, the high speed needle is about 3/8 of a turn richer than the factory setting, and the low speed is untouched. The problem is, even at this setting I am still getting readings of 270-275* on areas of the head so I am afraid to lean it out any, as I thought that would only make it hotter. I use traxxas plugs, p/n 3232, which are called medium/long/super duty, and 20% top fuel. Another question is, and this may sound pretty dumb but hey, I am new to this, but is a glow plug like a dirty car spark plug where you can clean it off and re-use it sometimes, or once it's fouled, it's garbage? Thanks,
Jared Williamson

Hey Jared,
yeah once it's done it's done....it's usually cooked the metal so much it won't burn anymore.....how many plugs did you foul.....and you missed a good race night man...after you left like 40 people came...there were so many buggies they had a C main....next weekend is gonna be dead though...I might not even go saturday......hope to see ya there again...

You wouldnt happen to have the stock head? If so, change it out for a better one. www.acncm.com has good ones, or Nova makes a good one if you want a lower profile.

try the Q plugs at the hobby shop...ask her for the T-maxx glowplugs.....those worked really well for me.....buy a few of em to keep inyour box...they don't last as long as a car's plug does either...I keep about 5 of each kind I need in my box....if you're trouble shooting why it's doing it you don't want to run to the shop every time is does it....

Hey eric, I'm beginning to think you surf the web more than work...:) Yeah I was bored out of my mind on sat. when I got to my other house, I wish I would have stayed, I would have liked to have seen a big race there, never have before. I have a q plug in my box, I am going to put that one in there next and see how it goes. I had one in just after break in and it fouled it too but the motor is running a little better now than it did then so I will give it another shot. Let me know if you are going to go or not this saturday or tonight, I am ready for round 2 of carnage. RC21gt, yes I have the stock head and stock everything else, the truck is less than a week old. I don't want to gain any speed or performance at the price of reliability, but if the ACNCM head will make it any better controlling temps, I will give that a shot soon.

oh yeah, and since I left you, I ran almost 4 tanks through the motor and fouled 2 plugs. 1 took 3 tanks, the other took under 1 tank. Right when the first plug fouled, I saw the motor was running like 268* and shut it off and richened it 1/4 turn on the hsn, and then when I tried to start it again, that plug was fouled. Put the new one in (both were traxxas 3232) and ran almost a tank, shut it off, was running about 265* again, and then that plug was fouled.

Yeah man, do your self a favor and save some headaches... buy a better head! The stock head just doesn't cut it!

I think I am going to go with the ACNC head and work from there, everybody seems to have good things to say about the benefits of it.

Hey Jared,

I second getting that ACNC head or the nova, the ACNC is a little cheaper. My maxx wouldn't hold a tune until I put that head on... now she sings like a canary. Best 30 bucks I ever spent on that thing. Check Ebay.... that is where I got mine and you will probably find a better deal. If you need help finding one just give me a shout.

Tom

Yeah man, they are awesome! They also come in blue anodized. Ebay is a great place to buy those heads.

Yeah the ACnC head seems to cure a lot of tuning issues w/ the maxx...when i ran mine stock all I could get was a super high dollar Hardcore or Nova head...I used th egolden horizons and it worked pretty good....when the plug fouls look at the coil..is it looking like a bentup noodle wherer it is normally straight?? if it is then you are probably too lean on the LSN.....I do that all the time trying to get the low end punch I want....yours seemed pretty spunky but not like you had it leaned out too much....and yeah at work I have a 3rd monitor scrolling through the threads on automatic, I just paste the URL in as one of the web paages to automatically pop up and refresh...I don't even have to touch the mouse...LOL....I'm using a $10,000 HVAC automation software package to automatically surf RCNT....you'll notice my posts are mostly during work hours.....

No I make a bit more than 10g dude...that's what the software we use for graphic interfaces to the systems I design costs....I use it to monitor customers sites while they are still in construction phase and correct any DDC logic errors that come up...I build a web page for the customers to see what their building is doing...since the software is designed to page through the web pages we create I tried pasting the URLs from this site into it and it worked......I became the biggest post whore out there yet thanks to technology......besides it helps if U type pretty damn fast too.....

I am pretty sure that I saw the ACNC head at southeast in the display case for 27.99, so I think I'll just go there and pick it up rather than save a dollar or 2 on ebay and take a week to get it. Are there any tricks or things to look out for when I am changing the stock head to the new one?

Hey Eric, Are you going to the track to practice tonight?

Dude,

I know the feeling, I have this site up and minimized from the time I get to work in the AM (0630) to when I leave at (1700) The only problem is that I do alot of work away from my desk... so I have to come in a peak to check out what is going on.... Its like an addiction.... Plus I have a T1 here at work in which to surf..... not like the slug of a Dialup I have a the house!!

No not tonight...I have my daughter this week and it's hard for me to break away from the track and get her to eat dinner/ shower & go to bed on a school nite as it is......next monday I'll be there...and I'm not sure about saturday either yet.....if I know the other kids are going for her to play with I might go.......

OK, keep me posted about saturday, I'll be in town this weekend. If you don't go, then I am just going to set up a couple jumps inside my warehouse and crash around for a little while.

I so need to move to FL..... there is no one in MD that is even remotely interested in RC..... except me of course!

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you eric, after going on saturday and getting a few ideas of nice things to have at the track, I was looking around in my shop and I have a spare 110v 25 gallon upright air compressor that I take to job sites at work, I am going to throw in the jeep for the next go-around, it would sure help the clean up process on the t-maxx. After seeing those trailers at the track, I have also have an extra 4' x 8' little trailer that I was going to turn into a trailer to pull behind my 4 wheeler, but now I am thinking about a t-maxx support trailer for the track...
