I picked up a project T-Maxx for a real good price with the OS .18. It is the 2.5 style.....I am looking to do forward only. So I have a few choices when I do this.... Robinson Racing and GH have kick ass gear sets for it but are pretty expensive. There is also the Traxxas FOC kit which is decent. I have been looking around on Fee-Bay and have seen the new Maxx factory FOC trannies too that brag "Revo Spec". Does and one know if these are any good? I need ideas on this.....

frickenjoey,

Never heard of the the Maxx Factory FOC tranny but I have used the Robinson Racing FOC in my version 1 T-Maxx back in the day and was very happy with it.

I think they're bragging that it's "Revo Spec" because traxxas came out with a new tranny for the 3.3 Maxx that was just like the one in the Revo. A stock 3.3 tranny is a lot stronger than a stock 2.5 tranny, but I'm sure if GH makes it or Robinson, it's plenty strong. Don't get me wrong, Robinson is great stuff, but personally I would go with GH. Their products are amazing, and they also have a no questions as policy for returning the part if something breaks, and they support our site.

Yeah there is another T-Maxx out and it comes Forward only.....I guess they finally listened to people. They call it "Revo Spec Forward-Only Autoshifting Two-Speed Transmission" The new truck part number is 4908 But Who knows more hype maybe....

Charles I do have to agree with you GH makes some very good stuff....So I may have to get the new FOC 3.3 or a GH kit....or do they make an actual FOC kit for a 2.5 Maxx? Hmmm....have to check on that.

Yes, there is a foc conversion made for a 2.5 maxx tranny. I just put one in my sons maxx. I'll see if I can dig up the part number for ya.

I'm not saying anything bad about GH, but RRP has steel gears and I believe GH has only aluminum.

I went with RRP's steel years ago in a BB maxx. I ran many (7+) gallons through that trans with full RRP (except for the two speed larger gears that they make now...) and the gears looked like new the day I sold the trans. I mean, literally like new. Those RRP steel gears were one of the few parts on my BB maxx that withstood the test of time and punishment.

There's no question that RRP is top quality stuff. I just wanted it to be known that I wasn't bashing there product when I reccomended the other one, I just knew that they have a lifetime warranty and make hig quality aluminum parts. However, I haven't run either and I don't think either company would be a bad decision. You can however buy a traxxas FOC for the tranny for pennies on the dollar compared to the other ones named above.

I have had RRP and GH stuff through the years and both are real good products. My first T-Maxx several years ago I had GH shock towers. They were the only thing that survived the crash that ended it all for the Maxx.....
