Foam Tires!!

Ok I am at a bit of a loss ...again.I want to get some foam tires on my NTC3 but what is the deal with the "Shore" rating or the "color" when the foams are still black!!!what is recommended for regular parking lots runs. These lots are clean of debris most of the time.What does the forum recommend and think?

The ratings are for the hardness of the foam.
The softer the foam the better stick you get. There is no such thing as a free lunch. The softer the tire the quicker it will wear out.

Choose a tire that best fits your style of driving and financial ability to purchase new ones when they wear out.

I'm sorry but at this time I don't have my color chart with me and don't remember the ratings. Try going to the manufacturers site for a chart.

Thanks Eddy .So is 45 shore the hardest ? If so if I am running regular parking lots semi-clean; should I get like 30-35 shore for F/R?

Go as soft as your wallet will let you. If you don't mind sliding / drifting a bit the harder tires will last a good long time.

well I want to drift butnot every moment..I think I will trysomewhere in the "medium" area. What do you consider tobe the "medium"?

jon2 - a 'medium' foam would be a 32-35 shore. but be aware, even these will last only about 6 hours on a parking lot surface. foams are great, but unless u are running on a groomed surface, they will put a nice dent in your wallet. if u are strictly parking lot bashing, check out a medium compound medial pro.

Thanks NA I am trying something different on the lots..I try to clean the are up with a push broom but Idon't know how much that helps?? I think I will go for a 35 shore rating...Do you know anything bout the colors rating on them?

I still have to say, that with On-road, your biggest after build expense will be tires. As long as you dont keep smashing into things and breaking parts, this is an ok expense.

Personally, I run medium/hard compunds, foams only, and only warmer weather. That makes for a great day at the lot. I also run slightly wider tires in the rear than the front. Helps with traction. Since I dont race at the track I can go outlaw and not have to worry about it.

Another thing to note..... All parking lots are NOT made equal. Before the bash I went and ran at 3 of my preferred spots all within 1 hour. I noticed a HUGE difference between them. If the lot looks shiny and new, stay away. If dull and new, GO GO GO! A freshly tarred lot is probably the worst. Older lots are good too, just a stone factor comes into play.

The lots I go to are GRRREAT!!! They are all like a mile away and there are about 10 lots to choose from. They are all in an industrial / business area .so they are pretty well kept with an exception to leaves. There is one that is perfect an leveled evenly. I run my NTC3 and I drift everywhere. So that is why I need more traction..FOAM! ...mmmmmmm...Foam!

jon2 - i run 45 shore when i am on parking lots, and they grip just fine. check out the 45's by TRC.

If you have a little extra time and money go purchase 2-3 2 liter bottles of root beer. Shake them up and poke a small hole in the side near the bottom with an ice pick. Keep shaking it up as it mists out on the parking lot. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes then run on it. You will be amazed at the additional traction you will get. None of the sugar free crap, a bargain brand is fine but it must have sugar.

You can also purchase traction compound. It comes with a brush or roll on depending on what you get. Rub it into your tires and let it sit for a while. Your first minute or two will be like an ice skating rink but after that you will get better hookup for a while.

I have ordered the TRC foams from Hobby People but they couldn't tell me what rating they are.Hopefully they are 45's and I will look into the traction compound and see the pricing between that and ROOTBEER!
