A more in depth look at the fsc18 bronco. Before anyone asks....yes they are a hub design where you can overtighten the wheel, no that is not the heat issue...I checked.

So the motor still gets hot, the esc does not though. The 390 I have coming should solve that. I did some refining on the jump on the home track getting a little better shape dialed in. When you hit it right, there is a nice smooth transition crossing the sandtrap headed into the next turn. Man this thing is fun to drive!!! Gotta get 1 of the locals to spend 100 so there can be 2 whipping around the track...

If you watch trophy trucks and desert racing....you have seen this landing several times a race,lol

Is this considered a crawler? A crawler is my next purchase.

Definitely not, this is a desert racing truck. Top speed of 19mph. By comparison my element trailrunner is much more of a crawler /trail truck with a top speed of 6 mph due to favorable gearing for climbing etc.
Fms does make crawlers, and I hear decent things but have not owned 1.

If I wasn't concerned about the plastic motor mount I would run it as I have been until it burned up the original 380. If I split a 2000mah battery into 2 driving sessions it only get about 150. And the esc is at 110f which is fine. Which also says it will likely be fine under a little extra load from the motor upgrade. It's about 85 out today for testing purposes.
There is something about that track that puts a real load on everything. There was a day we burnt 2 motors on that track. It was decided because of spring...the moist soil would cling to the wheels making them heavier as you went and increasing load. That's not the case now. Dust flying everywhere...and hot motors. So I am willing to say in part it may not be product flaw, just what I am doing with it. ....which doesn't make me want the new motor any less...
I will be curious if the others have the same experience...or if they got ones built before lunch....when the coffee was still working... and quality control was at its peak.
In the time I have driven it I have broke nothing, and had a great time. So there is that.

I ordered mine on Friday and it hasn't shipped yet. Maybe I'll be able to share my experiences by the end of the week. It seems to me that I remember reading something about the motor heat issue in my extensive web searching on this great bargain of a little truck.

It's kind of a bummer that upgrading the motor and ESC won't turn it into the equivalent of the brushless version FSC18 due to the differences in the driveline parts (plastic vs. steel -- and maybe some other things I'm forgetting).

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be satisfied with the performance of the brushed version as long as the motor heating issue isn't something quickly fatal to the little can motor. The brushed vs. brushless thing seems similar to what I've read regarding the Maverick Microbe SC that I recently bought the brushed version of: many reviewers think the brushless version is actually overpowered and hard to control while the brushed version is more drivable and fun.

I see the batteries of choice have those "deans" connectors. I would snip them off and solder on the xt60 to match the esc. XT60's are alot better for carrying current, especially compared to that adapter.
At $100 it's a great deal. I just wish it was a solid rear axle like the 1/7 scale version. Because it is NOT, it is just like a GROM, a UDIRC SCT, the Hypergo SCT, and many other clones/brands that run the very same platform layout. The only thing that really sets it apart is the Bronco body. I am not trash talking this, I am just saying it's nothing we haven't seen yet

I feel like my tracking was useless, but it also only took a couple days for delivery. Sort of a it's left Florida...and it's on the stairs....
For the small track I have the speed is fun. I probably need like 1 mph more to really get a clean landing on the jump. It feels like appropriately scale driving though. Brushless power I'll come off the jump into the neighbors yard....which would be less fun.

This is almost 1/16 - 1/14 scale while the chaser is a 1/24 -ish scale. Theres no reason not
to design this one as a solid rear axle.

I'm with ya. Opening up the diff and putting some thicker grease in there is way up on my list right now. It is really loose from the factory. And we will also find out how many gears are metal. The pinion is.

From what I've seen in videos, the diffs have only two spider gears and they are plastic.

A little time knocking down any mold lines or burrs on the tongue, and slot with some needle files and 3m green scrubber and the front body mount works in a much more favorable way. Don't know how it works after I jam some more dirt in there. When it's clean it's easy, and still tight enough there shouldn't be any issues with body rattle etc.
