Flywheel question

How much of a scratch on the flywheel is tolerable? When I was putting the old flywheel on my Picco, I gouged out a few of the 'teeth' on the flywheel and it seems to vibrate alot more. It could just be the engine... but I just want to be sure.

Teeth on a flywheeL?Are you ure you don't mean Clutchbell? If you are refering to the flywheel's contact surface that meets the starterbox wheel, I don't think it will be a problem. But pics would be nice.

It's okay to have scratches on your flywheel, but it will have less grip if you use a starter box.

Yeah, I meant the grip part of the flywheel. It's on my Maxx so I can't use a box anyways. I'll get a pic later on today when I get a new clutchbell.

Oh okay, it will be also harder to stop the car if you do it by stopping it with your shoe sole.

My flywheels are all dinged up due to using channel locks to hold them when I tighten or loosen the flywheel nut. It doesn't seem to cause me any problems.

It's not as bad as I originally thought, but it is bad enough to foam up the fuel pretty badly.

I race and use a bump box, mine are pretty "flat" from wear. Fuel will foam up for other reasons not for that, if you are concerned about fuel foaming up, spray a spritz of Armor All into a gallon of fuel.

That flywheel looks just fine. You can continue using it.

Heh, I thought it was going to be a problem with wear because of the speeds that these engines wind up to. At those RPM's even a small inbalance can blow something up. Glad to know mine won't. Thanks guys!

Maybe if you were missing a chunk of the flywheel vs a few grindings... then you would notice.
