Anyone got one? And any suggestions on what is the newest, or what you like/prefer? Both Heli and 3D flight, plus basics?!?

Yeah, I have RealFlight simulator and like it a lot! It has planes and heli's, very realistic and 3D. You can purchase additional CD's with different planes, fields, etc. Just have to make sure your video card has the horsepower and has a 9 pin jack for the controller.

I have Reflex XTR. I'll post up a couple screenshots in a moment. I like it. On the right machine it runs fast and is very realistic. One cool thing is that when the company upgrades some things (like adding scenery or planes) they let you download them free. It works with your standard transmitter so you can use your own sticks to practice.
Also, I hear AeroFly Pro is incredibly good. Not as detailed, but is purported to have slightly better physics.
And if you're looking for a freebie, FMS is freeware and can be quickly downloaded off the web.

Here's a couple shots of Reflex XTR:

I'm using RealFlight 2 and like it. 3 is out now but I haven't upgraded. The controller is USB and I believe you can hook your own controller up but I'm not sure.

I haven't used any others to compare it with.

I am useing RF2 also...And yes you can use your own controller.
You just need a buddy cord..

Ill upgrade to RF3 soon I now have the computer to get the job done:)

It's really photorealistic. The only downside is you need a lot of video RAM and some heavy-duty processing to be able to run it well. There is a more polygonal/generic landscape that's nice if you are on a slower machine, but why bother?

Damn guys, I need to get with the program.
I have the old Real Flight. Can't even use it this computer. Transmitter hooks up with a serial? This one doesn't have it. Still have an old computer I can run it on. Windows 98.

How serious a computer do you need for the newer ones now? Mine is a Wally World special about a year old. No graphic card, but it has AGP.

Digger, if you get a new video card, typically they'll have the serial port on it. I have the same one as you do (Real Flight) and since my PC didn't have enough horsepower in the card to begin with, just upgraded it and the new card had the port on it.

Food for thought!

Great info guys. I was thinking along the line sof the RF3 so I can use the VG 6000 Tx with it.

bottom line no sim is gonna be like the real thing i tried 3 already and nothing really comes close to the real thing!!!! you just need to be motavated and get out there and try it!!!

I have. I just want to practice a maneuver with my sticks ahead of time. Crashing electronically is not as expensive as the real thing!

Mine helped me. I kept all my planes the first year I used it. :)

I know there isn't a substitute for getting out and flying. But the sims help you learn the controls. Can always start over on the computer. That long walk to pick up what's left sure sux though.

yeh I'm not bashing the sim!!! i still use my sim!! but i just need to get out there and fly to really get better!!!

Plus i found myself much more relaxed @ the comp as to lests say sweaty palms about to piss myself if she goes down!!!
idk just my 2 cents

I'm interested in starting into flying and am interested in a sime only if its gonna help me. I have herd ppl say that if you lear to fly a plane first its easier to fly a heli. I have 2 electric planes some friends gave me but can't get their batteries charged. Anyway i jsut want to get into helis and want to know if i should get a simulator or not and if so which one. I dont want one that is gonna be a pain to use, cuz iv herd G3 isnt as good as G2.
