Yeah...I actually ccracked it a while back. Using the given formula your answer is always divisible by nine. Now go back and look at every number that is divisible by nine...notice anything?
Not trying to spoil the fun, but I was pretty thrilled when I realized how it worked.
 
I am always pretty enthusiastic about craking stuff liek this, but seriously it had me stupped for quite a while.

I am bad with numbers so i will just take you on your word for the numbers thing.
 
Using their criterion, there is a fixed set of possible results. Before you press the globe, look at your answer. Then look at all the other numbers that have that symbol. All multiples of 9 (9, 18, 27, 36 etc.) will have that as their symbol. Those are the only possible answers given their equation. They do also throw that symbol onto a few other numbers to throw you off. But no matter what original number you choose, your answer will always be a multiple of 9.
