I have some hair line cracks in the tile on my kitchen counter top. The tiles are structurally sound but I would like to fill the cracks so they look better.

I'm looking for product recommendations. My guess would be some kind of a filler or sealer.

Maybe ImBroken can offer some advice. I saw he does that stuff in his "what the hell do you know" response.

I can play the part of handy man when needed, but I think I'd just replace the tiles or live with the cracks. :(

what color is the tile? just use some tile grout in the crack and even it up the try using some acrylic and blending a close match to the color andspray some clear over it. not all the tiles just the one use masking tape and cover the surrounding. make sure it is well ventilated or you can inhale @ you brain cells expense.

now that you have the pics up, if you have a dremel get the grout remover and redo the grouting while your @ it. youll be sure to get some after a hard days work lol.

I'm nor ready to replace the tiles at this point.
Sometime in the next year or two we will be replacing the tops with some kind of stone. I'm hoping extend my wifes time line for doing this by making what we have look better. I don't see the need for an entire remodel just because of a few cracked tiles. On the other hand I'm not a women.

Jeez, You should see my list of indoor honey dos for this winter. It looks like the National Santa Clause want list.

you need to go to your home improvement store and have a looong talk wiht one of the people. i think my little technique above will work. since its white it wont be too hard.

I was kind of thinking the same thing as FRIDGE mentioned. Your best bet would be to head down to your local Lowes or Home Depot and talk to someone. Some very knowledgeable people.

I think acrylic of some sort will be the answer.
If it was hair products I was looking for there would be a million and one products available for every specific need. I have been looking for a prepackaged product for this project but have come up empty handed.

Didn't the wifey tell you not to bang on the bullnose edges with your hex drive handles?
Try Home Depot, Lowes and any tile store. There is a product offered that will seal cracks and chips with a shiny coat. We have a couple of small nicks in a few places from me dropping cans and pots on the counter tops. I cannot remember what it is called. It will seal it smoothly, make it less noticable, but it will not cover up the defect.

Looks just like one of my tile counters in my kitchen. Tile color is the same too.

I can't recal the name of it, but there are some acrylic epoxys on the market that will make it look better for the time being. All of em start to look funny after some time.

<---------------- Installed tile for 4 years and has sold flooring for 4 years now. :D

If you have a dremel, you're halfway there. Dremel out the grout and chisel the damaged tiles out. Get the same color tile and use a thinset tile mortar. Butter the back with it and press it into place then regrout. It's the only real fix to the problem. Maybe your wife will decide against the new countertops if it's fixed instead of masked with a quick fix.

Shes already shopping for granite tops.
I have tried doing tile replacements in the past and failed miserably.
If I tried to replace the tiles.. Well.. My kitchen would be getting "Stoned" sooner than later.

I picked up some porcelain patch in a bottle. The kind used to fix chips in the sink. It seems to have filled the gaps. I will use some sink paint in my airbrush to color match it. I don't expect it to be perfect or last forever but it will byte some time. With the way shes rushing to buy counter tops I hope I can use the extra time to find a sale. The granite poop ain't cheap.

Just router out the grout and replace the tile BAM done, is that the only place thats cracked??

Looks so easy on "Ask This Old House" than it really is, huh? Kinda like watching that guy Chris Chianelli on DIY Hobbies talk about r/c's and how easy it is to get in to it. YEAH RIGHT! He never does a kit, always RTR . Guy can get a manicure and clear polish his nails but can't comb his hair.

Are you planning on granite tiles or a slab?

go to the hardware store and look bathtub repair kit and try that i think it comes in a little bottle for abot 5.00 to 10.00 that my work for you

T-Max,
OUCH I need to open mouth and change feet :p: Good catch!

Stang,
More meds needed... read up a few posts. (Hope your feeling better)

Diver,
I only do as I'm told when it comes to the kitchen. (I'm sure you under stand the relationship of an Asian Women with her kitchen) I believe shes looking for a slab, something to lay my dead body on when I bitch about the price.

FastEddy, I take it she doesn't take a shine to Corian? www.corian.com

That poop isn't cheap either, but I can imagine it would coast loads less than granite.
