First Problem

Ok so I've had the savage for awhile now and I'm super happy with it and i havent had time to drive it for the last month. So today i figure I'm going to drive it, fill it up and make sure everything it working properly and then start it and died a few times because the weather here is changing constantly. so i make my adjustments and I'm pleased but i have to shut it off for about .... 5 mins because i had to go feed the dogs. Come back to crank it over and the roto start just spins and the engine isnt cranking.. so i think ok 3 things might of happened .... 1. OWB had oil on it and its not grabbing the shaft. 2. the OWB is broken or 3. the pin in there somehow popped out and its not spining the crank..

It turned out to be number 2 but not in the way i expected .. the OWB literally has cracked all the way down the side like it somehow split in half..i can't get it out of the roto plate so i think I'm going to some how pound it out and buy another .. or i may just take this opportunity to get a pull start. i ALWAYS ALWAYS seem to have problems with electronic start systems .... on both my t-maxx and jato both EZ starters always malfunction and now this. I've always liked pull start so just may go with that..

Anyhoo.. what do you all think about this ? I've personally never seen a OWB break in half like this.

I swithced to pull start a while back. I now prefer it over the roto start. I got tired of the same thing happening to my owb. Plus i got tired of packing the damn thing around all the time. Now all i need is a glow warmer, a temp gun, and a screwdriver.

Do prefer the pullstart myself. I never cared for the onboard starting systems as they add extra weight. extra weight = slower speed so I usually try to take off as much as possible. Wether its a pull or roto doesn't really matter to me. A couple glo ignighters and a good drill is all I even need

Yeah i just never liked EZ-Rotor starters. i mean its good for those who dont want to have the work of yanking on it to start but i prefer it for multiple reasons ....

1. Like stated above, dont have to lug around a heavey starter or EZ start pack on your shorts.

2. one less thing to charger witch means no down time.

3. with a pull start you can feel the inside of the engine where as the push button start is no sensitivity so you dont know if you feel alittle un normal friction or anything loose.


So i do in fact believe I'm going to go pull start..

I have a few questions.

For pull starters i may go HPI but I'm on a super tight budget at the moment and i need to find a cheap one. So i was looking at AXIAL starters for 10 bucks.. What is your opinion on their starters ?? i usually stick to OEM parts so never tried axial before. I've heard that axial cords lots of the time come undone and youll literally yank the whole rip cord out sometimes..

Most pull start problems are user error. Don't yank it like a lawn mower and don't fully extend the cord and you should be fine. I'd buy the Axial.

yeah i learned that with my first pull starter. after that never fully extended the cord at all.. just heard someone on youtube talk about the knot or something comes undone easy and to just put a spot of glue or something on it but i think ill just buy the axial put it on and see how it turns out.
