First Buggy

couldnt decide between a Monster Truck or a buggy...but i want a buggy.

Ofna Ultra LX Comp RTR w/.26 PS

wondering if that would be a good start and any hop-ups for it etc? its my first RC above that of a cheap-o wal-mart one. My friend has a Savage but he broke all the control arms when he jumped it 25 feet lol.

any pros/cons of it. seems nice, .26 engine and other misc stuff.

It's not a bad 1st buggy. The .26 is decent,and it comes RTR. Look up a write up on RC Drivers site. They did a test of it. Dont know all the #'s off hand, but I have it at home I will look when I get there.

If your just going to "bash" with it and not race,I would lean to a MT over a buggy. But that is up to you. I love my buggy, but I race it as well.They are built close to the ground,and will not go some of the places a MT will,BUT buggies fly sooooo nice over jumps,and will beat most MT's in a drag race.

Dont forget about the Mayhem its and awesome buggy for both bashing and the track.

I would have to agree with psunitro on the fact if your just goung to bash get a MT. But all in all whatever you decide on have fun with it

Man Tough decesion.... I was faced with the same decision a while back... so I bought both!.... a year apart however. It all depends on what you are going to do most, race or bash. Buggies bash great, but they are not much of an all terrain vehicle. Only because the ground clearance on a bug limits it to where you can drive it. If you are going to race primarially then a bug will work great and you will have a blast. The good thing about an MT is that you can race and bash anywhere you want. They have great ground clearance for all terrain and you can race them as well. Most tracks have an MT class. They are not as nimble a racer as a bug though. So it all depends on what you wan to do the most. You are going to get alot of recomendations and advice on what to buy, you know the whole ford is better than chevy, and vice versa. Listen to these guys they know what they are talking about, but also realize that when it comes to buying a bug, you will get alot of opinions. Ultimately it comes down to what you can afford and what your primary use will be. There are alot of Nitros out there. My recomendation is to read the advice given and pair that with some research and you should be able to make a very educated decision. Remember, all nitros were not created equal. The skys the limit, as long as your wallet can handle it of course! Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going to have to agree with Corrado. If your going to get a buggy you might want to get something a little higher end. You can get a basic hyper 7 for a few bucks more and you will get a buggy that is in a different league. The thing with getting a lower level buggy is that the internals of the ride aren't at par with others.

I just don't want you to get this buggy and a month down the road turn around and say you should have done.....

VB, Good advice.... I was thinking that about the XTerm Pro I bought a few months ago along with the RG X, but after talking with some of the folks on this site, I think much differently. My Xterm may not be a "Top End" bug but I will put her up against anything out there. You are just so right about not jumping out and buying the first buggy or any nitro for that matter that you see. If you need to wait a couple of weeks to save to buy a little bit better bug you are better of waiting instead of like VB said... I should have... great advice man.

Guess this is where I dissagree.If its your 1st "real" RC, any hobby grade will be 1000% better than what you had before. It is about driving and having fun, and price is a concern, the LX will be fine. It is not the latest and greatest,but it is a 1/8 scale buggy,and it is fairly durable.The problem RC Driver had was the steering knuckles rubbed on the lower front suspension arms.Just a little trimming and it was OK. That and like all RTR's you will want to replace the steering servo eventually with a better one. BUT, the stock one is fine for some time, but you will see a big change in steering when you swap it out.
As for comparing the LX with other "better" buggies,yes the LX is not a pure racer,but if your bashing,who cares?

Other buggies to consider( at a cheaper starting price) are the HB Lightning ( Tower Hobbies has them on sale now) but parts are hard to come by. The GS Storm RTR is also a nice buggy,they can be had on e-bay for about $340ish NIB. The Storm is also a older design,but durable,and has a FM radio in the RTR package.

Do you plan to race this at the track anytime soon? Or is this just a "basher" with your friends? Also look to see what your LHS(Local Hobby Shop) carries for parts.Its always nice to know you can get a part when you break it right away instead of waiting on the mail!!

The Rustler is a great ST too BTW.

thanks for the help. unfortunately money is an issue. I'm lookin to spend around $300-$350 for a buggy. friend has all the stuff i'd need like the glow plug igniter/starter etc.

i watched my friend drive his e-maxx aroudn the street and yard...looked fun but id want something more.

it will be something to just play with in the yard and jump occasionally. my friend is gonan build a track in his backyard so thats probably where it will spend most of its time.

its between a 1/8 buggy and stadium truck can't decide.

Well heres my story. I was doing this same thing a few weeks ago. I new i wanted a buggy but didnt know wat one. My first thought was sweet a ofna lx buggy for 300 wat a steal. Then i was asking around and doing some more review and i found out that its not the best buggy. I just bought a Ofna hyper 7 pbs and its sweet! I couldent be more happy and i got it for 389 nib. Runs like a chanp and i havent broken a part yet. The hyper has a race legal 21 engine and there isnt any problems with the suspension. Plus it comes with a starter box. Watever you buy I'm sure u will be happy. Just soem buggys will be more fun than others.

lookin on eBay found a few nice buggys, GS Storm for $250buy it now
HB Lightning and teh Hyper7.

but i really don't want to buy USED...but can't find much for $300 and under. might have to wait teh 2 weeks to get a better one....chances are i could spend $500-700 than haha....girlfriend would kill me though... :argue:

but if i can throw down $500+ i might think about a Savage 2.5rtr or Revo...

Well,if $500 is the budget,there are SOOOO many things you could buy. For bashing,nothing beats the Savage.

500bux puts u in a mayhem RTR that gives u more than u'll ever need and prolly will make u wanna go to at track and try racing b/c its that capable.

This is where I have to put in a plug for the XTM Xterminator, around the same 350ish price and durable as all get out right out of the box as well. Good buggy for any first time Nitro 1/8 scale bug. Of course just my

My O-Pin-Yon is the Hyper 7 seems to be the best bang for the buck in the buggy world.....if you start racing seriously you will want to get something "more"...meaning the MBX-5 and XB-8 or the 777 are the dominating 1/8 scale racers out there...they all have different characteristics.....I'm doing the XB-8 right now and have an MBX-5 I'll try soon.....whichever one I like more I'll keep and sell the other......racing puts a lot more stress on the RC than just running it cause you try harder than normal if you want to be competitive.....the Hyper will probably take most of the expected crashes during a race, but I've seen my 9.5 do some small crash and bust stupid stuff.....then like last nite I just kept casing the XB-8 on the triple and it would so cartwheelling down the track, stop and just drive away...that's an example of the More buggy we are all reffering to.....for bashing and messing around w/ your friends the Hyper 7 should be more fun than your bladder can contain.....

main factor....how well do 1/8 buggys do in grass?

talkin the grass uhaven't cut for 2 weeks kinda grass...do they go anywhere or just sit there struggling to move? if they don't move ill be getting a savage or revo....

if they are ok, ill probably be getting a Hyper 7

They are OK,which is NOT what you want you will want great. They are too low for this type of terrian. The Savage is the way to go,from everything you have told us.
