Well like it says this is my first one, didn't realize the biggest key to paintin rc bodies was patience lol, so its a lil rough but what's everyone think?

Stilll gotta do the final cutout n finish cleanin the edges of the blower but other than that she's good to go. Color came out a little lighter than I wanted but I think its because I laid thee base on a lil heavy so ill do a lil lighter next time. Thanks to all the guys on here who've done write ups on painting. If you guys didn't have up all that info it would've been a lot tougher to do this for me. So thanks again.

Oh n its pactra rattlecan paint aqua wave and cobalt blue with pactra silver on the pipes n motor, I haven't even begun to mess with an airbrush so startin with the basics first.

Awesome job indeed she looks great! One thing I always do prior to painting is cut the body out so my body scissors don't knick and scratch the paint during

Looks great I'm with HPI trim first and mounting holes much easier and reduce the chance of screwing up a nice paint job edges tend to chip.:hehe:

Lol forgot about drilling your body prior to as well. If you have to custom drill for placement search my threads or paint and body topic for help on mounting

Looks great! Especially for a first time paint job, nice job man.

I also agree with the other guys, I always trim the body first, and if it's one for one of my rigs I also drill the body post holes, and cut the cooling holes, basically a complete fit before I paint. That way there is no chance for an "oops" while trimming it after painting and messing up a nice paint job.

Thanks guys. Definitly need a little more time between coats n shoot lighter ones as well for that perfect finish. I'm very happy with how it turnedd out though. Next time ill definitly cut it out first n drill everything, luckily though I picked up a hobby knife set at home depot that made cuttin it out pretty easy. No worries about scissor tips hittin the paint. Ill def get lexan scissors next time though as the hobby knife left a couple rough edges.

All that I gotta do now is run it by work to run some sandpaper over the rougher edges. Just got it all cut out except for body post holes, which luckily its made for the savvy so the body hole indentions already line up well.

One thing I had a major issue with was the window tint paint. I finally just shot the side and back window black to be done with it. No matter how light a coat I could not get it to stop running. Anyone got a good write up on how to do the tint? lol.

Thanks again for the compliments guys and ill get pics of the body on the truck up inna bit. Now that the bodies done the rest of my rebuild can start as parts come in so ill have a build thread startin tomorrow, look for details if your interested.

Oh n hpiguy ur awesome! thanks to the 3s lipos u sent me I destroyed the old body, roll bar, body mounts, and blew three of my wheels apart lmao. (And stripped a pinion gear). So those batteries are the cause of this complete rebuild lol thanks again man! Happy I've got a reason now to redo the savvy, its needed a facelift.

If you have a Dremel tool you can use the sanding barrel tip(sandpaper) and go over the wheel wells and make them look beautiful

Yup don't fight the dremel, or it will take a big chunk out of the body in no time.

No need to be ashamed. It looks nice and clean. And for a first body that's what you want. None of us started fancy. And now each one you do will be a bit more complicated. And will look just a bit better. But that one looks great. Be proud.

May i ask how you do the 2 tone paint job with paint cans? Do you tape off certain spots and paint those spots first?

Yea luckily a dremel I have a little experience with, though I'm not an expert so all the advice is appreciated. I work at a car audio shop so we cut dashes all the time and usually we use air saws or dremels. That part should be okay, plus there isn't much finishing work to do as the hobby knife I got did a decent job, I may even just be able to sand it and that's it. Thanks again for the compliments guys, I personally didn't think it was that great but its grown on me over time. Mostly I'm just wonderin how long the blower will last with my awesome driving skills (read that with as much sarcasm as possible) lol.

Oh n broken_civic all I did was use blue painters tape and mask off the blue section of the body, then mask the windows n blower section with the provided masks. I taped the whole thing from the dividing line down to the bottom n shot the green. Then shot the black backing to bring out the color. After that I peeled the tape off, retaped the rear bumper and mufflers, and shot the blue followed by backing, then peeled the blower/motor mask and the tape over the exhaust and rear bumper n shot the silver. I then backed the whole thing with three coats of black to make sure it would flake as little as possible then peeled the side and rear window masks and TRIED to shoot the window tint paint. The tint is where I failed as I wasn't patient enough to shoot reeeeally thin coats and let them dry before shooting them again so I had some really bad runs resulting in wavy patterns in the glass lol. So I ended up just sprayin them black as well, peeled the front window mask and then put pics up here for judgement by the experts lol.

After doing a little reading the only two things I would've done differently is cut the body and mounting holes first, and also sanded the inside for better paint adhesion. Hopefully the thorough cleaning of the body I did before hand will allow this paint to last but only time will tell.

Thanks again guys and ill get the build thread started now!

heres with the body trimmed 90% of the way. all thats left is the final sanding, but one of the guys at the shop backed a car over our dremel so waiting for a new one to polish it off. new wheels arent dyed yet but i mounted em up to see how they looked. shocks are also still off the truck for now.

new wheels have been dyed and mounted just waiting on the shocks, shock socks, new body mounts, and roll bar, then she'll be done.
