Drone flies around a burning house while firefighters work to put it out. During most of the video the drone is sitting not moving much just watching and then around the 10 minute mark the pilot he wants to get a much closer look and around the 12 minute mark the firefighters notice it and attempt to blast it with water to which the drone flies out of the way.

After a few more minutes the pilot then decides to land it. To no surprise he is now claiming the fire department owes him $2,200 for a new quadcopter...

I thought the fire department was out of line here. The house is still burning and they're chasing a camera instead of wetting the fire.
He stayed up after the first good shot of water, the camera still ran and he landed with no problems. Now HE'S wrong to try to collect.
If someone was standing on the street with a video camera, would the fire department have hosed them?

In an emergency situation, distractions like a drone buzzing over head are a huge hazard. That said, the fire department was not in the right either. I put more blame on the pilot though.

As for the water comment, from what the vid shows IMO the fire was out and the smoke/steam was residual.

It certainly wasn't the fire department that attempted to shoot it down, it was ONE guy with a hose.
There are nothing BUT distractions at a fire. Cameras everywhere, sirens, crackling radios, spectators and blinding lights.
If that guy had knocked the quadcopter out of the sky his department WOULD have been held legally and financially responsible.
When news helicopters are overhead at big fires I sure would hope he doesn't try to shoot THEM down with his hose.
This is just another case of "DRONES ARE A BAD THING".
The guy with the hose was an idiot.

Helicopters don't get within range of a hose.

The drone pilot should probably have stayed a little higher but there was no reason for the guy to try and shoot it down. The drone may have been damaged, where he landed it was no where close to where he took off with it.
