Well i just got back from a week trip to Northen IL to pick up my truck and wanted to start fixin it up, its a 1972 chevy cheyenne 4x4, it has "i think" a 350 v8 5.7 in it, my first question is i want to fix the exhaust because its really annoying loud cause the original mufflers are rotted out. But the pipes are in great shape. its dual exhaust. anyways has anyone have any expierence with any good mufflers that have a low deep sound to them? I've been searching for hours but can't make up my mind.

I have a flowmaster Cat back on my truck coming off of Hooker headers and they sound really nice. Not to loud but yet ya know there some power there.

I have Flow Tech Terminator mufflers on my truck and they really sound good. They sound much like the flowmasters but dont cost as much. You can usally pick them up at your local parts store.

Flowmaster 40 series. Great low rumble that just yells POWER. Look on fleabay for the best price. Most performance shops are asking around $100 but I got mine for my Dodge for like $45 shipped.

Bassanni here :hi:

Anyways, good choice in trucks...They got the front disc brakes :) I used to have a 68 SWB and 68 Short step my self. Any how, Flows sound good as well as Hooker aro chambers. My SVO had a Hooker on it and it sounded nice...best of all it was a hair different than the stangs running around here with flows. Now you got some insterresting suspension on that bad boy. If it was me I would make the pipes exist before the rear and to the side. Now if you go full rear exsit exhaust, it will be a hair less quite in the cab. Also install an "X" or "H" pipe just a little past the header collector or manifolds. This will help a whoile lot with the V8 drone. If the truck is stock or slightly modded, go with a 2 1/2 exhaust/mufflers.

Just an FYI: look into a LMC catalog...they sale all kinds of stock replacement parts for the 67-72 Chebbys

Have fun with her:)

For flowmaster, there are different series mufflers. I think it was the 40 series that was the most agressive sounding and the 70's were mild. I may have that reversed. Double check just to make sure. Other brands you may want to check are Borla, Magnaflow, Gibson, B&B and Bassani. Price will be determined according to what setup you want. If it's just the muffler, cost will be considerably less. Also make sure when you purchase the mufflers, check for inlet/outlet orientation.

SVORay is correct about having an X or H pipe installed. It will take out some of the drone but most importantly, it will also act as a balancer for back pressure. I'm not sure when it was implimented (73 or 72), but if your truck has the cats installed, best thing to do is change them out. I'm sure they are full of gunk from years of running. Best bet is to change them out for a higher flowing system. If they aren't there ... better for you.

Diver, I was thinking '74 on the cats?

Nitrost, 'Ol Lady has a '96 Bronco with a 302. It has a one flowmaster on it and sounds pretty good. I've been thinking about putting one on my Dakota.

The Bronco gets on my nerves after riding it a while.
I think it's where the pipes are coming out of the side? If I would put them out the back, would I hear it in the cab as bad?

Not too sure about the resonance if it came out the back, if it would be lower. Just make sure your rear seals on your back door is good. You don't want the exhaust to get in the truck.

As far as the cats, I thought it was mandatory for late 72 models and standard for 73. My 72 Pontiac doesn't have them but my uncles 73 GranPrix does ... who knows!?!

I have my exhaust both on the same side but behind the passanger side tire. On my 97 F-150 the stock pipe came out in front of the tire and scored the poop out of that rim.. I wouldnt do that. Esp. if your gonna have some nice rims.

The exaust on the Bronco is coming out behind the rear wheels.
I'm thinking that since it is under the cab?
Figured if it was coming out at the rear bumper you wouldn't hear it that bad?

After about 15 or 20 minutes the noise will make your head roar.

well after school i went to look at my truck and under the driver side muffler it was rotted out at the top and hardly any exhaust coming out of the pipe. so right now I'm thing of magna flows 20s or 22s. but what body size should i get 4 or 6 inch

well today i went to oreillys and all they had where flowtech raptors for 20 each so i picked them up. we'll se what they sound like. thanks for the help

I listened to a couple of clips with the Magnaflow exaust on the little V8 that is in mine. Think I have to have one.

Good luck with yours.

thanks digger.

well i took it out for a run today and the steering is horrible went to turn and it goes for a ditch and the steering wheel wobbles to much. went to summit and just ordered a skyjacker steering stabilizer and we'll see if that helps it. any other ideas to help it?

Probably out of alignment. And the steering wheel wobble is probably a unbalanced tire. Go get a alignment check. Here in Mn. they do checks for free.
