Picked up a Blade MCX from a member here, and in the past two days I've probably put 6-8 packs through it. I love it so far! I did a little tweaking on the linkages to get it to fly forward faster, but it still needs a little more. So far I'm able to fly around my living room and up to the second floor loft without smashing into much stuff.

Are there any good mods for this bird? I want to get some more packs, or maybe some higher Mah packs for it.

Another question i have is, now that i have this radio, can i pick up other BNF birds and it work with them? is there a good (for the money) TX that would connect to it, and be more versatile?

anything i should know?

Congrats. I've been working on my helis a lot lately, too. You can use the radio with the BNF's but you have to retrim it for every bird. The DX6I has 10 model memory so you never have to retrim between the different models.

If you plan on getting more BNF kits you can buy the DX6I without a reciever or servos. Thats what I did once i got my MSR and my ultra micro p51. Its becoming very handy.

i almost attempted to land it on top, but resisted the urge.

what is this i keep seeing about mode 1 and mode 2 TX's? in the instruction book, it has documentation for both and it seems the controls are all mixed up. I seem to have a mode 2, but i dont see anything on how to change it. I am comfortable with the layout as it is, is there any benefits to each mode? i would assume you would want mode 2 with a heli since the throttle stick is not spring loaded.

Are there any mods to this model i can do for longer flight time, and faster FF?

mode 1 is european. In mode 1 the right stick is the throttle. Mode 2 has throttle on left stick. You probably want mode 2.

The MCX wasn't build for speed.it was built for beginners. If you want the same size heli with more speed, go pick up the MSR. Its slightly harder to fly but has a fixed pitch rotor with a tail rotor. Its fast and agile unlike the MCX. If you get the MCX down alright it shouldn't take too much for you to get the msr down. Its very stable and very durable.

I feel like I'm picking up the mcx pretty good. I am able to fly upstairs, go around the pillar, and back down again without crashing. I am not crashing it anymore and i am able to keep it off the walls and things. Landings are still a little rough, but not to bad. I have logged more productive air time in two days with this one then i did in a year with my rotofly. that thing sucked.

I tweaked the linkage again and it seems to be flying forward a ton better. before it would kinda move forward, then stop. now it flies forward at a decent clip. and i think one more turn should get me where i want it. I still have plenty of reverse speed at this time.

What about the dx5e radio? i only saw it in mode 1, is that a European only model?

Rolex, I know you have some low end radios laying around! I'm looking for something i can fly the msr, and eventually the cx2 and maybe higher. my step son already wants me to hurry up and "upgrade" since i told him i would sell him this one cheep once i did.

The dx5 is basically a high end stock radio. Not too many options and no memory. Trimming everytime you want to fly something new is a PAIN, especially when your helicopter takes off full right or left when you lift off. The memory is definately nice

If you want to get a bigger heli just jump to the 120 SR. Its basically the same as the MSR but about double the size.

Since upgrading to a single Spektrum DX-7, I have no use for the radios that come in the box. I usually bind and fly with the stock receivers, so that's all you'll need.
I'll let you have both for $50 shipped.

I'm not necessarily looking for bigger yet. as i like the indoor flying and its getting cold out. I would however like to step up to a more agile bird soon. Is there a big difference in the mcx and mcx2? the lhs said its just slightly stronger motors and a different canopy.

the msr sounds like what i will be looking for in the near future.

do either of those have multi model memory? they are both a little overboard for what i have, but i guess room to grow is good.

the JR wouldnt work would it? the rx wouldnt fit in the mcx.

Both of the 2.4 Ghz radios are single memory for a single bird. The JR used to fly my 4' long .46 nitro heli, but that's also 2.4 now.

The JR has at least a 10 model memory, as I recall, and can fly anything from a plane to a complex heli. Presently it has the standard Rx, but a micro FM Rx would be preferable in a small heli.

the mcx has a 5 in 1 setup with everything on one pcb. i dont think you can run an aftermarket rx without some serious modifications.

The 120 sr is about the size of the CX3. I just hover it around the house. Its to fast for uch else.

Woop, sorry. Nope, you can't run anything else with the circuit board.
When the weather gets better, you'll need to upgrade to a CP heli.

dont do a cx2. Jump into a 120 SR or similar fixed pitch single rotor. After flying the MSR you will have it down enough. The 120 flys like the MSR with more mass. if you can fly the msr you can fly its bigger brother, too.

If you're getting into advanced Helis I would recommend a simulator. I have realflight in the mail. I'm going to expand my skills without buying new blades and tailbooms.

The Trex is the big brother out there. All the other helis want to be just like him.
Belt CPs are worth looking into.
You can get them RTF or in kit form where you add all your electronics. Tail and rotor head are in the kit.
Once you master the CX2, you should skip the fixed pitch and move up to a CP. Another fixed pitch would just be the same, only a little bigger. Learning the stick movements are the important part of flying ANY heli.
