few question for my savage xl

i just bought a savage xl 5.9 that as not run for the last 2 yr.
is it Worth trying to rebuild the engine or look in a new one ? if new what would you recomend ?

i want to put 17mm hex on it what would you recomend.

For something that hasn't run in 2yrs, might be a good idea to do a tear down and check the internals to see if anything is scratched, if it all looks ok seal up the block with some high temp silicone, also put some Team Factory Green Slime (#1105) on the o-rings of the carberator.

The only one I can recommend is the picco/boost .28, I also have a couple axials and they work well but I've been told my piccos will out last and out preform them once I get them broken in....I'm not there yet.

Your motor may be just fine, depending on how it was stored. As said above, I would open it up a bit and have a look. If it looks pretty good, seal it and see how it runs. As far a 17mm kits; check out Hot Racings kit.
