Ok so i am back in the nitro world and today reminded me of why i went to brushless in the first place. :D I put an axial 28RR in my savage X and broke it in today with some odonnell 30%. Truck is starting to run better and the mill is getting more and more powerful with each tank.

First problem was that there is a SLIGHT wobble in the spur gear and it was binding against the clutchbell in the same spot. The engine can't be moved back any farther and since my slipper is clamped down all the way all the time, i removed the silver disc with the two holes that sits against the slipper pad. This put the disc with the two male tips pressing directly onto the slipper pad. This gave me a hair more room but i can hear a slight jingle when i spin it so they are still barely brushing. Not as bad as before but still a little.
This is my spur/cb combo

second problem is that the truck never seems to shift. It doesn't have a torquey takeoff but it also doesn't have much top end so i am thinking i am stuck in first and i just need to lean my lsn a hair. I tried adjusting it but i just couldn't get it to shift. I got it to shift ONCE but it was freewheeling and was at the absolute PEAK rpm. SHould i just slap a 3 speed in there and be done with it or is there something i can do with this 2 speed to make it shift, or something to check to see why its not.

thats it for now.

I had to go drive the e-savage to feel better about my rc's :hehe:

its been a long time since i tinkered with my savage, but you can definitely adjust the tranny shift point. i can remember the direction u need to go, but it it sounds like the shift is set to high in the rpm range if it shifted when you were free wheeling. the directions should be in the manual.

you turn it ccw to lower the shift point and cw to raise or eliminate it altogether. I had the screw backed out to where it was flush and it still didn't shift

You need to run 16/47 gearing with that engine. 52/14 is a combo for the old school .21 Savages. You'll have to back way out on the 2 speed adjustment to get a shiftwith your current gear ratio. Been there. i bet it is shifting into second so fast you don't notice it, or your jerry rig on the spur gear is causing slipping.
Put the slipper back together right with all the parts.
Your issue is due to the CB being to far forward right?
Remove the engine take all the clutch/flywheel stuff off.
Dremel approx. 2mm of the fatter side of the collet. Reasemble everything and it should line up right. If you have different collets, you can try them to see if they will move the flywheel back for more clearance.

That doesn't make any sense. First you say i am not getting enough rpm to shift (saying i would have to back it out all the way) and the you say its shifting so fast into second that i don't notice it. My first post says that i was able to get it to shift into second but it was at a much higher rpm than i wanted.

The slipper isn't slipping. Its locked into place Removing the disc allows for the spur to sit farther forward and almost eliminate my rubbing problem. I think its a much better solution when compared to cutting collets. It will have a friction clutch on it today anyway and i believe that alone will more the spur into a more acceptable region.

ok if its shifting at a nigher rpm then it should be then u need to adjust ur tranny turn it to the left about 1/2 a turn then try it and keep on trying to adjust it to ur prefences.

i backed it out all the way until it was flush and i still got nothing. I geared it 47/17 today and its faster but sluggish. I think the motor just needs a few more tanks through it. I like torquey trucks.
