i put my fantom .15 and 2 speed in yesterday. the thing hauls ass in my supernitro. BUT, the fantom is running really cool , the max it has gotten up to was 190 (after a total full throttle run) on like the 6th tank (fantom says to break them in at 205 for 4 tanks then go full speed ... nooo problem) but the engine has NEVER hit 205 EVER ... yesterday i was driving it on about its 8th tank, and the temp got down to about 150-160 for a few tanks. i plan on leaning it out, but is this bad that i have not even hit 205 >?

being that the break in says to break it at 205 and i couldnt get there, should i break it in again once i get it leaned out ?

fantom says that normal opperation temp is from 205-280 . and my car is nowhere near that. on the last tank i ran, it finished the run at 140 ... very cool . its still fast and all , but i know it could be faster if i lean it out a bit. and i dont want to damage anything (plugs or sleve or anything) by running it to cool and rich.

someone please help me
 
I run a Fantom in my T-Maxx and it has always run cool. I run it lean and it is below normal temps. I run it rich and it is below normal temps. Performance, always high up there.

It has been said by many people on many forums. Tune for performance not for temperature. Use temperature as a limiter on the high side; for instance do not let the engine ever go too far above its design temps. Even that is tempered by the fact that some engines (TRAXXAS engines in particular) tend to run hot.

So, with that being said...tune for performance and don't sweat the temps too much.
 
What plug are you using? What temps are it outside when you are running it? What fuel do you use? All this stuff would really help in trying to answer your question.
 
I'm running the stock fantom plug (whatever that is) it was cool yesterday , about 50 degrees , today its about 70 and its still running cool. i use trinity platinum 20% fuel...

skymaxx. it is still running damn fast, i dont know if i should even worry about the temp ... you're right , it runs cool no matter whaat, but its ALWAYS fast.
 
That is really good to hear. I have been considering a fantom for a while now to replace my CV-X at the start of the season.
 
I've run about three gallons through my Fantom and each tank it seems to get a little faster than the one before. You will get a lot of people who will say that it is not better than an OS engine, but for me...I'll take a Fantom.

I don't think you will be disappointed.
 
The only complaint I have about my OS is it is a little lacking in low end grunt. I have a BTH and the AE pipe on there but it still seems to.. lack a bit. It is reliable though, starts first or second pull everytime.. never dies even if it's hot. I guess I want something a little.. more. I had a collari .12 in my t-maxx for a while and it had GOBS of power but it was lacking in the low end. I have since put it in my friends Losi XXX-NT and it works like a dream.
 
huge guy , you will probably want to try the fantom .15 ... if you want something real fast, you can get the fantom .18 or the sirio 18 ... but they are almost too fast, youll need to upgrade a lot of stuff on your t maxx to handle them. i say go with the fantom .15
 
Something to consider. If you are happy with your current engine, you can always regear the drive train to get what you want (low end, top end, etc.) Just replace the clutch bell and spur gear according to what you desire. You will find that you can get just about anything you want with the right gear combination; on top of that, it is a lot cheaper than a new engine.

If the gearing idea doesn't suit you and you really, really want a new engine then Fantom will make you happy. As for going with a .15 or an .18, that is your choice. The newer "drop-in" engines for the stock T-Maxx are getting more and more powerful.

I am already running an 18t clutchbell with the stock 72t spur. I could step down to a 16t clutchbell but I have read about some people having problems with the engine hitting the gas tank.

It's going to be a while until I can afford the new engine. I will have to give that sirio some thought but it might be too much power. I already have the FOC in my t-maxx as well as center CVD's.. but the axels are stock plastic. I need to get around to buying CVD's all around but those are expensive for the proline kit.

My Collari .12 had enough umph to twist the plastic drive shafts pretty good, I am not sure what a 1.25hp fantom or the .18 sirio would do.. :)
 
The Fantom will twist the stock plastic slide axles just as esaily if not more so than the Collari. I run CVDs at the four corners and keep the centers as stock plastic. I use the center axles as the "weak link" on my drive train. They are cheap and easy to replace. BUT to the matter at hand. They do get overtorqued (twisted) by the Fantom when I bash, but for running on the road or perhaps a track you will see little trouble.

Either way, it sounds like you have already beefed up the drivetrain to handle a more powerful engine. The only other areas of concern would be the differentials and perhaps the internals for the tranny. Upgraded gears in those areas couldn't hurt, but I have not changed mine and have yet to have a single problem.
 
Are you guys twisting the old axels on the trx pro .15 model or the new 2.5 as the newer are supposed to be stonger.
 
Until I got the CVDs it was the old style. I now use the "new" stock slide axles to replace my center drive shafts and they still get over-torqued and twist out.
